David M Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 (edited) Good afternoon I am used to German sources, like regimental histories and officerslists. Right now, I am looking for career information on an officer who last (1815) served as Captain in the 60th Ir Christian Wilhelm Bretthauer. I hope one of you either has access or can point me in the right direction. Thanks so much in advance Regards David Edited December 19, 2022 by David M
Glenn J Posted December 19, 2022 Posted December 19, 2022 David, that might be a bit tricky; Infanterie-Regiment 60 was not formed until 1860. Regards Glenn
David M Posted December 19, 2022 Author Posted December 19, 2022 Oh yeah that would be. It is oddly the one I read in my source. I checked and it does say 60 infantry Regiment. I think what is meant 60th regiment of fout (kings royal rifle corps)
Trooper_D Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 (edited) He was, indeed, in the KRRC. One source in which he appears is this one, Source: https://archive.org/details/aregimentalchro00wallgoog/page/n10/mode/1up The scan is not the best but he appears at least four times: p.165 (1st column), p.167 (2d col), p.173 (2nd col), p.177 (1st col) To start you off, here is the first reference, Edited December 21, 2022 by Trooper_D Corrected link, to point to frontispiece 1
David M Posted December 21, 2022 Author Posted December 21, 2022 Great, thanks! So happy to be able to close this gap in his career

David M Posted December 21, 2022 Author Posted December 21, 2022 In 1815 he tried to get into the kurhessian army again, whence he came, but was refused. He lived in the principality of Waldeck for the remainder of his life on partial english pension, dying at an unknown date somewhere after 1838.
