Is this a good medal bar?

    Hello again,

I appreciate your recommendations very much.  As someone who is very ignorant about Japanese Medal bars, why specifically wouldn't you recommend the bar and couldn't hooks become unhooked over time?  I'm not questioning the validity of your comments whatsoever, but am trying to see what you see so that I won't make errors in the future.  I have read that so very many Japanese medal bars are constructed with real medals, but are fake.  The ones I do have I know are not, but Japanese medals and bars are by no means my area of expertise and I would like to know more.  Please teach me what you look for and what you know.  With all respect. John

    Dear azyeoman,

"couldn't hooks become unhooked over time?" I don't think so, it's already difficult to hook them. As can be seen on your photo. Once properly mounted, the medals cannot move, they can be damaged (ribbon / hook), but not unhooked.

A very small detail, but which is important, I think, the medals are usually (but not always), tied up to avoid the "bell ringing" noise and damage when one moves.

As for the absence of a military campaign, why not? The Order of the Rising Sun was attributed to civil officials.

The military was not the only one who got medals.

The medals are fine, the bar is fine, but as you said yourself, some medals bar are "reconstructed" ... to add value.

It's how I see it personally, in my humble opinion, as I am not an expert / specialist.

    Yours sincerely,

    No one

Thanks very much.  I have to say that the four other medal bars I have are all tied down so the medals can’t move, and show wear from the post on the reverse of the medal.  There is also uniform wear to all the ribbons indicating a long time on the bar.
    Thanks again! John

Yes, the assembler's "legend" is clear )

The real problem of this medal bar is not even the total quality of assembly (questionable) or general wear (also questionable) but the missing medal of the Emperor Showa enthronement.

    Best,

    Nick
