Guest Rick Research Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I hope that one of our readers who lives in the former Soviet Union can clarify these--we often see old veterans WEARING them, and I assume that these vanity awards are BOUGHT by the "recipientts?"There is something both pathetic AND simultaneously frightening about anybody who continues to act as if any Old Order is still functioning...15 years after its end.

Hallo Rick I really must search a local militaria forum here in Romania for a picture I once came across, showing a WW2 Romanian Pilot-veteran in uniform at some big shindig in Bucharest, post communist time proudly sporting amongst his decorations, his WW2 1939 EK 1, complete with swastika Kevin in Deva

And they have a presidium, however irrelevant it may be in today's Russia.
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 A few more - will dig out others and certificates tomorrow. Sorry if this makes things disjointed OK, more so than usual, . . . .Medal "120th Anniversary of I. V. Stalin" / Медаль ?В ознаменование 120-летия со дня рождения И. В. Сталина?
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Medal "80th Anniversary of Great October Socialist Revolution" / Медаль ?80 лет Великой Октябрьской социалистической революции?
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Medal "80th Anniversary of VLKSM" / Медаль ?80 лет ВЛКСМ?
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 (edited) Order of Stalin / Орден СталинаDiscussed before, I think? Edited May 7, 2006 by Ed_Haynes
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Medal "Veteran-Internationalist" / Медаль ?Ветерану-интернационалисту?While associated with the Fourth Afghan War, thsi was in fact awarded for a much wider range of locations and services, as the reverse legend "SPAIN & NORTHERN KOREA & CUBA & the NEAR EAST & VIETNAM & AFGHANISTAN " indicates.
Ed_Haynes Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Certificates, as available, to follow. Though some of these certificates are unissued, some are "issued", and some may be really issued, these are fascinating awards, indicating that all is not as uniform and changed in Russia as some may sometimes like it to sound.

Hendrik Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 50 Years of the Victory of the Soviet People in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945And for still being alive 10 years later : 60th Anniversary of the Victory etc. etc.Obverse : [attachmentid=38381]
Riley1965 Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Personally, I like the Opposition Communist Party 50th GPW better than the official Russian Federation version. In fact I like the Umalatova's appearance and detail better than the Official Russian medals. Just look at the 50th & 60 GPW medals. Doc

I think most that do wear these are (justifiably) proud of the service in the Soviet Armed Forces.
