I have the following two documents of August Hermann Krakau, Garnison VerwaltungsInspektor with "Bezirk der Intendantur des IX. Armeekorps".

He first appears in the 1883 Rank List as Kasernen Inspektor (Barracks Inspector),

and his last entry is in the 1894 Rank List as Garrison Verwaltungsinspektor (Administrative Garrison Inspector).

In the 1908 Almanac, his entry shows him as Garrison Verwaltungsinspektor a.D., with RAO4, KO4, DA3 and 1897 Centenary Medal:

Is it possible for someone who appears to have around 11 years of active service to be awarded with KO4 and RAO4?

    Hi,

he was last listed in Harburg in 1907. The 1908 addressbook of Harburg/E. only lists his daughter and his widow.

He served much longer than that. He was substantively promoted to the rank of Kasernen-Inspektor on 22 December 1873 having previously held the rank of an "interimistischer Kasernen-Inspektor" prior to his promotion. In the Prussian army Ranglisten only the heads of establishment of Garrison administrations, Proviantämter etcwere listed explaining his non listing in that publication until 1883. Born in 1824, he presumably was also an ex regular Prussian army senior non commissioned officer. He retired on 9 July 1894.Died 8 January 1907.

    Thank you Glenn!

But then, why only a DA3? Shouldn't he have been awarded a higher rank?

I cannot confirm the extent or nature of his pre official military service. Once appointed aa an official however, he was no longer in the position to gain further long service awards. Officials were neither eligible for the officers' long service decoration and in his case nor the Landwehr long service decoration as he was not a reserve or Landwehr officer.

    Glenn
