WWI Group ASC Lieutenant/Major

Hello everyone

 

I recently add this WWI group in to my collection.

 

But I had a bit of difficulty on finding any info about the officer awarded to it.

 

Can anybody help me on getting any info?

Hi Peron,

I’ll try and access a bit more but I thought I’d show you this which was available…

A record of his Mention In Dispatches.
(Always nice to know the MID belongs)

 

I read the date as  4.1.17

& Temporary Captain at the time.

The 1914 Star ribbon is the wrong way round, it should be red white blue from left to right. The oak leaf should be on the ribbon of the Victory Medal.       Pete.

Many thanks for this information...But can we know the reason to be M.I.D.? 

And is complete name? Could it be possible to know what L.E.C. means?

Well on another quick look I found some more information and what I believe is the complete name of this officer...but I ask for the help of someone where that could help me on decoding the medal card ?

Also in the French Arquives of the Ministry of the Defense, I find an entry to the political prisioners in WW2 (1939-45) of him:

Leslie Erroll Collyer Mead was born 24 Feb 1879 in Lewisham, London as a son of John Mead (1832-1906) and Harriet Mead (1838-1911). Baptised 27 Mar 1879 in Holy Trinity, Etham, Greenwich. His father was a Ship owner and broker. Life must be good for them because 1881 Census shows that they had 3 Domestic Servants.

 

Also he had brothers James Percy Collyer (1868-1929), Stanley Collyer and John Collyer Mead (d:1944) and sisters Florence (1862-1922), Agnes (1867-1939 ), Elisabeth (d:1948) and Constance (1867-1939(?)).

 

With his brothers James, Stanley and John they formed a company MEAD, SON & HUSSEY, carrying on business as Steamship Owners, Ship and Insurance Brokers at Portland House, Lloyd Avenue, E.C.3. After the Great War, 1921, this company was dissolved.

 

He studied in Oxford and Cambridge, Felsted School / Chigwell School, where he obtained lower certificate on 1894-95.

He gained rank of Temporary Lieutenant 30 August 1914 (same LG input as his brother Stanley Collyer). Embarked to the Theatre of War 30 Aug 1914. Promotion to the rank of Temporary Captain 26 Mar 1915.

Relinquish his commission as Temp Major and retain rank of major 8 Mar 1919.

Served (at least in the end of the war) with the base Supply Depot, H.Q. Calais. Applied his medals 7 Nov 1921. Address given in Paris.

 

1919 he lived Woodford Green, Essex.

Married with Marie Therese.

 

Leslie died in France 28 Sep 1958, address given 7 Rue Albert Samain Paris, France.

 

Lots of to research here. If you even google the company name, that they owned, you can find out ships that they owned, etc…
