izzetafox Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) Hi, I can see from the discussions here that there are some very knowledgeable militaria folks here, I hope someone can help. With the recent passing of my mother in law the family have had to clear many years worth of saved treasures and memories. One item we have found is a cap badge. My father in law served in the RAF during the 1950’s. One of his tours was in the North Africa region. Sadly we cannot find any service papers that may point to whether it was Egypt, Libya or possibly Aden. We are guessing that he was given or perhaps swapped the cap badge with a serviceman from the region he was stationed in. I have tried image searches and other tools with no success. I am guessing that the script is Arabic but I am not even sure about that. So folks can anyone out there identify this cap badge so that the family solve this puzzle. Many thanks Terry Edited January 23 by izzetafox
Gordon Craig Posted January 23 Posted January 23 izzetafox, I believe this is a Jordanian cap badge. I've seen it identified for sale as an army beret badge or as police cap badge. I believe it to be an army badge. Regards, Gordon
izzetafox Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 That’s a perfect match, obviously he travelled further afield than we thought. Many thanks we are very grateful.
SillyOldGrandad Posted January 23 Posted January 23 The 1950s date would make your badge that of the Arab Legion, a British led force that was operational from 1920 to 1956. The later badge of the Jordanian Army was originally the same but I believe the Arabic script changed later. Pete.
Michael R Posted January 23 Posted January 23 H Terry, The photograph appears to be that of King Hussein of Jordan wearing a Jordanian Army general officer's field uniform. The King died several years ago. I hope this helps your investigation!!!! Regards and best wishes Mike
izzetafox Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Thank you Michael, the picture is becoming much clearer. I will have to go on a genealogy site and try and find his service record to broaden our knowledge. Terry
oamotme Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Hi, The Arabic reads 'Al Jaish Al Arab' - The Arab Army. It is a Jordanian cap badge - whether it is the pre-1948 Arab Legion or post independence Jordanian Army is difficult to attribute but it appears to be an old white metal badge. Regards, Owain
ChrisKelly Posted January 24 Posted January 24 (edited) Found these three sources, looks like yours is a Jordanian Army cap/beret badge.
