Glenn R Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I've just secured this piece for my collection. It's not in my hand yet but when I get it I'll post some detailed pictures of the interesting bits if anyone wants to see them.
Glenn R Posted May 17, 2005 Author Posted May 17, 2005 I've been after one for a long time but have only just managed to get my mitts on one. I've handled one before and can't decide whether it's a thing of beauty or a madcap Heath-Robinson monstrosity.
Gordon Williamson Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 The KMST marked EK1s are amongst the most desirable 1914 pieces. The one you have is extremely rare. I have heard it suggested that this particular fitting was designed to somehow fit on the Cuirasse breastplate worn by elite units such as the Garde-du-Corps.I have seen this particular type fetching insane prices.
Guest Darrell Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 (edited) Congrats Glen .. very nice :food-smiley-004: Edited May 17, 2005 by Darrell
Bob Hunter Posted May 17, 2005 Posted May 17, 2005 I guess it all depends on which side you look at first! Congratulations on the interesting new addition.
Glenn R Posted May 18, 2005 Author Posted May 18, 2005 Thanks chaps. Gordon, I've not heard that before about the possible breastplate fitting. Do you know what this speculation is based upon?Cheers,Glenn.
Dave B Posted May 18, 2005 Posted May 18, 2005 Congrats Glenn :food-smiley-004: I almost had a heart attack when I saw that beauty for sale but as usual too slow off the mark Dave
Glenn R Posted May 19, 2005 Author Posted May 19, 2005 I know Dave, I think it lasted about 30 seconds.
