usairforce
Red Banner "5"The order are from my friend, but i think they are fake Edited June 30, 2006 by usairforce
Guest Alanirvine
USAIRFORCE,The "4" on the number 4 ORB is normally open somewhat at the top of the "4". With respect to the #5, it would be great if we could view the front (obverse) of the award.Alan (alanirvine)
HuliganRS
They are both FAKE.

Dolf
They are both FAKE.Rusty,Yes, they both look fake to me too, but in my case it's more like a feeling I can hardly explain, apart the fact they have some resemblances with those Kapral ones. Can you please elaborate a little bit on the signs for the verdict? Thanks buddy,Dolf
HuliganRS
They are the cheap Capral collector copies.the reverse and the mint mark on these is always the same.Rusty.
Stogieman
Is it me, or are the wreaths on these two very different from the examples shown in another thread by Alex?
HuliganRS
Forget about the orders for a second and let's pause for the dead fly that was most likely hit by the RB#4.Pause....Thanks!Rusty. Edited June 30, 2006 by HuliganRS
Stogieman
Hi Rusty, actually, I believe that to be a Midge. Wrong thorax/abdomen for most of the Diptera.

Guest Rick Research
I haven't seen one of those fakes to be able to handle and inspect in hand yet. This new book will be the standard reference book for us all on Red Banners:http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=9422From the scan, except as noted for the shape of the "4" it does indeed look like a Type 5.1.2 in the new book's classifications. The "4" should look something like this, altering the scan above:[attachmentid=45570]According to Durov and Strekalov ALL Red Banners with "5" were made in 1944 and awarded from then until 1991, with no variations. The mint mark was in a straight line.

NavyFCO
Yeah, I do feel bad for the wee bug... I prefer to think of these in terms of "icky". Like the red enamel being "icky", the gilding being "icky", the engraving being "icky" amongst other things. The actual cast looks pretty good though. If they fix the cosmetics, I think they might start churning out really good Red Banner fakes from scratch.Dave
