    Russian Medals Help please

    Recommended Posts

    Hi Everyone

I joined up tonight having found a note of your site by pure chance!! What a facinating forum free of junk and slander!!

I collect South African insignia from 1939 to 1996 and have about 3000 pieces in all! I am hoping sometime this year to get a book on the subject off to the printers at last

As any good collector I try to help out when others ask hence the Russian medal query. Can any one tell me what these two medals were awarded for and when as a good friend of mine is looking!

    Thanks

On the left is a WW2 Victory Medal which from the coppery color looks like the labor front version. It is on the incorrect ribbon for a Veteran of Labor medal as given to civilian retirees from 1974 on.

Here is a Labor Victory on the correct ribbon, showing reverse incription:

On the right is a 1978 Armed Forces Jubilee Medal given to:

regulars (not first term draftees) on active military, KGB, and Interior forces duty in February 1978, all WW2 veterans, members of the armed forces who had previously retired with over 20 years service, and certain more obscure categories of decoration recipients.
