7th Class Golden Kite - But not quite right!

I'd imagine many of you saw this on eBay recently. I just wanted it for the maker's mark, it's otherwise unremarkable. Guessing that things were cobbled together, or perhaps the original recipient wanted to upgrade the lapel rosette from the bow that should have come with this piece. Weren't these 3-ray rosettes introduced in the 20's/late Taisho or very early Showa? This is one of our well-known "SU"-marked rosettes, but I believe the medal is closer to WWI time-frame. Any thoughts on this?

Yeah, isn't there something posted here sometime ago about the dates and such for rosette styles, etc. Maybe that was on Wermacht from Nick Komiya? Or is my elder mind just messing with me? ;)

    Hi Dieter,

A really nice find in the manufacturer's marked Golden Kite. I haven't been around the Japanese collecting field that long but it is the first marked specimen I've seen.

    Thanks for posting it.

    Regards

    Brian

Can't imagine that manufacturers forgot that Golden Kite doesn't have 8th Class.

It will be interesting to determine the period of using 3-ray rosettes for 7th Class Golden Kites (6-ray rosettes for 5th and so on) more accurately.

Yeah, could swear this had been posted somewhere about a period of time where there was doubling-up of rosettes - where as in your example the 6-ray rosette was indeed used for both the 5th and 6th class awards. Damn, where is that post, I know it's here somewhere!
