Scowen Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 We usually see the standard SS/FM membership pin. We rarely see the honour version.CheersDon
Scowen Posted April 5, 2005 Author Posted April 5, 2005 Reverse. This one had been reissued to another supporter, the original number has been milled off & a new one hand engraved.CheersDon
Jon fish Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 cheeky Don,fantastic pin ! Was this awarded/given for a much higher value regular donation ? I have to find one of these to go with my regular FM pin !
Jim Baker Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 OK, a stupid question. These were given for donations??Very nice looking pin.
Jon fish Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 OK, a stupid question. These were given for donations??Very nice looking pin.←Jim , Yes thats correct. Given to regular contributers to the SS funds ,probably on a 'direct debit' style system.Anyway that has always been my understanding. Of course there is also the FM Magazine that was connected to the whole thing and maybe some of the money collected went in to that, maybe contibuters got a regular copy, infact I have heard this was the case. This is mine with a little friend.
Jon fish Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 ...........and the reverse. Are we allowed to post links to dealers sites on this forum ? As I know of a very nice one with a picture of the wearer wearing the pin,can I post a link for our members to see who may be interested?
Jon fish Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Don,do you specialise in these pins? only I noticed your Avatar on the WA forum and now here is the FM pin. Also what is the going rate for one of those'honour' versions ?........... If you can find them !
Scowen Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 (edited) Jim, Not a stupid question at all. As Jon has said, the FM Organisation was composed of civilians who gave monetary aid to the SS, which had been authorized by Hitler to seek additional financial help. FM Members were recruited at Sturm levels and pledged to monthly amounts of as little at RM 1,00. A membership book without photo, numbered to an FM badge were issued. The standard pins are found in both stickpin & pin back types. In 1935, a special hallmarked silver honour FM badge with oakleaves and additional inscription on the obverse was authorized for the first 30,000 members; this was expanded to the oldest 60,000 a short time later. When the member ceased payments, the badge/book had to be returned to the Sturm and would be reissued as with my one at the top. Jon,Yes, the SS/FM Organisation is of particular interest to me. An honour pin in a decent condition can reach about ?300 the last time I saw a good one.Be very cautious when buying any SS/FM pins, they have been heavily faked. The first thing to check is that there is no RZM markings on them, none of the SS enamel pins were marked with an RZM code. Here is my standard members pin.CheersDon Edited April 6, 2005 by scowen
Jon fish Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Don,Look closely on your regular pin. It looks like on the reverse they have removed part of the round support disk[top half] that the pin is attatched to,looks like so they could engrave in that space. You would think it would have been easier for them to have put the numbers a little higher, like on mine infact. Did you notice this before? Could it possibley be some kind of period repair maybe ?
Scowen Posted April 6, 2005 Author Posted April 6, 2005 I've seen this a few times. I suspect that the numbers were stamped first & when they went to put the pin on, they found it was too big, but it's only a guess. CheersDon
Nick Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 DonThanks for the info on these pins. Jim you weren't the only one who knew nothing about them. As for links to dealers sites I have no problem with posting links to dealers sites as long as it is context with a particular topic and not for commercial gain.Nick
Jon fish Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 Nick,Glad to hear you have a sensible approach. I have nothing to gain from this, its not my site. but feel that if a member is looking for one well here is a nice one with a photo of it in wear. http://www.relicsofthereich.com/shop/shop.php RegardsJon
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 A question... along the bottom it say "i.d. Kampfzeit."If I am not mistaken, this refers to the period BEFORE the nazis came to power? Pre 1933?i.e. folks who donated BEFORE 1933 take over?

It was for the first 30/60,000 supporters from the "Years of Struggle", technically before Jan 30 or March 5, 1933 (not sure which, as I sit in a hotel room away from my books).
