Under the 2008 Constitution the following Decorations are awarded, (which now once again use Post-Nominal Letters,

as confirmed in the "International Year Book and Statesmen's Who's Who"). There seems to have been different Ribbons

to some of these Orders, the late King wore a Sash -the photo is in B&W -, and could be red with white edges, or white with red edges.

    1. NISHAAN GHAAZEEGE IZZAIYTHERI VERIYA - N.G.I.V.

The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Ghazi

Instuted as an Order under the Constitutions of 1964, 1968, 1997, 2008

This is the senior order or decoration, it is presented with a Collar, and a Medal, it is not known if there is a Sash,

there was a Sash during the kingdom period..

This Order was founded in 1964 (under the 1964-68 Constitution) when the Maldives Sultanate became a Kingdom under

H.M. King Farid I (or as sometimes named King Muhammad Farid I, Didi) 1965 - deposed, 11 November 1968.

It has only been awarded three times, firstly to the then Prime Minister (later President of the 2nd Republic 11 Nov.1968-11 Nov. 1978)

Amir Ibrahim Nasir Kilegefan N.G.I.V., on 9th February 1967, it was secondly awarded to H.M. Queen Elizabeth II (in medal-form),

on 15th March 1972, and thirdly it was awarded to ex-President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom on 17th July 2013, Maldives President 11 Nov. 1978-11 Nov. 2008.

    2. NISHAAN IZZUDDEEN IZZATHUGE VERIKAN - N.I.I.V.

The Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddeen

Inst., as the 2nd Class under the Order of Ghazi in 1964 & an Order under the Constitutions of 1968, 1997, 2008

This, the 2nd senior Order comes with a Collar and medal as far as is known,

it was awarded to HRH Prince Philip on 15th March 1972..

    3. NISHAAN ASKAREE SHARAFGE VERIKAN - N.A.S.V.

The Order of the Distinguished Army

Inst., as a Medal in 1964, as an Order in 1968, 1997, 2008

    4. NISHAAN MULEEGE SHARAFGE ISSAIY - N.M.S.I.

The Order of the Distinguished Rule of Majeedy

Inst., as the 5th Class under the Ghazi Order in 1964, and an Order in 1968, 1997, 2008

It seems that there is also a Collar and a medal

Medal Ribbon = looks like being about 34mm,

    green 4mm, yellow 4mm, white 2mm, blue 3mm, white 2mm, red 4mm plus reverse.

    5. NISHAAN SHAHEED ALI IZZAIY VERIKAN - N.S.A.I.V.

The Order of the Distinguished Rule of Shahid Ali

Inst., as 3rd Class under the Ghazi Order in 1964, as an Order in 1968, 1997, 2008

    6. NISHAAN ISKANDAR SHARAFGE VERIKAN - N.I.S.V.

The Order of the Distinguished Rule of Iskandar

Inst., as 4th Class under the Ghazi Order, and as an Order in 1968, 1997, 2008

    Hello Gentlemen,

During the lockdown in Malaysia (in summer 2021), I was lucky enough to have been able to buy a pair from a malaysian firefighter, with the Maldives Gold Lifesaving Medal ( here shown obverse and reverse ). Maldives often ask for "collaboration" with Malaysia firefighter, if they need hardware to assisting them in some ways.

    Regards to all.
