Löwenkopfsäbel - need help with marking / unit stamp?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I found this Lionhead Sword as young boy in a river. I never got behind those markings. Maybe someone can enlighten me. Just above the monogram

Looks like 33.A.5.4.

Thanks Andreas. Did you also know the meaning of the stamp above the monogram?

33 Feld Artillerie Regiment, 5 Batterie, Waffe 4, by the look of things - that's 1. Lothringisches Feld-Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 33

Happy to help! I wonder if this was a requistioned example, given how highly decorated it is and the monogram - it went from private to state service?

I tried to find a photo of those Metallsammlungen. But I never saw one with swords.

Maybe it was requisitioned as you said.

Thanks, that's what I thought to. Still the unit stamp seems a little of but as Trajan said maybe it was requisitioned.

Servitore ! A bit more about the sabre. on the blade is engraved an eagle , the imperial eagle , the imperial crown over. well , Alsace and Lorena were not part of Prussia , were Imperial territories with a somewhat special status.
