      Chip, there are two letters with the tag. Both written in 1918 (January and June). In the January letter Wilhelm writes that he is with a new unit (1. MGK LIR40).

      Hi Bob, Kavallerie training included and exceeded the requirements of the Reiterabzeichen (bronze) therefore a Cavalry trooper would not need to wear a Reiterabzeichen in bronze, but he would certainly wear the silver or gold grades of the award.
