    1. Official in terms of regulation, the answer is no. Now in term of comun use: yes, especially with flying units (not only) From what I have seen, you can find them for: - Remembrance of service: not proper to LW, to mark a period of passing in one unit at a certain time - you start to see that in WW1 (or before) and I believe it was still the case after (maybe even now) - To celebrate an air victory or a # of flights - here for "100" & "200" * some have unit emblems, some only names, some only dates, some only eagles, some description, some dedication, ................ some mix of several things just mentioned - si no specifical rules, nor for the size and composition (some silver, some not)
    2. In the basket, you will find cigars, wine ... and a doc for the 400th war mission
    3. Reco clasp in gold with pendant "300" came also with 2 small goblets to celebrate "air missions"
    4. Not a night fighter RK, but one group I like a lot This is a rare example where badges can speak more than if they where coming with docs We speek of Rolf Lampmann from 3.(F)/AG 122, bordfunker Honor Goblet on 15.06.42 DKiG as FW on 16.3.43 Feldpost # L 33014
    5. Were they use postwar (or even now) to determine the nomenclatura of LW flying equipment? Were they used in WWI and in between the two wars or is it something typical from WW2? Is there, somewhere a list of all Fl #?
    6. William, We are not owners of the items we collect, even better, in most of the case we don't deserve the medals we collect - in the best case, we are keeper of them and try to enjoy as it is a commun hobby. Things turn and what has highlited your collection yesterday is going to highlight someone else collection tomorrow etc,etc ..... c'est normal
    7. With few people words are not necessary as we are almost the same (well, except that mine is 28 cm ) and to be recognized by a friend means a lot to me. Frenchie (TMC)

    9. Heinrich Wohlers was born on 16 March 1912 at Altkloster in the Stade region of Neidersachsen. Trained as a reconnaisance pilot, Oberleutnant Wohlers was serving with 2.(F)/Aufkl?rungsgruppe 11 early in the war. He later converted to night fighters and was posted to II./NJG 1 on 23 August 1940. On 26 October 1940, Wohlers was transferred to 8./NJG 1. He claimed his first victory on the night of 12/13 March 1941, when he shot down a RAF Hampden twin-engined bomber near Nordhorn. Wohlers was appointed Staffelkapit?n of 8./NJG 4 on 30 April 1942. Hauptmann Wohlers had two victories to his credit at this time. On 1 January 1943, Wohlers was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of II./NJG 4. By the end of 1942, he had increased his victory total to seven, including three RAF bombers shot down on the night of 21/22 December to record his fifth through seventh victories. Wohlers was appointed Gruppenkommandeur of IV./NJG 6 on 13 January 1943. By the end of May, he had nine victories to his credit. In June and July, Wohlers was detached to 3./NJG 1. During his period with the unit he recorded seven victories, including his 10th victory, a RAF Lancaster four-engine bomber shot down near Broich on the night of 16/17 June, two RAF four-engine bombers shot down over Holland on the night of 22/23 June (12-13) and a further two RAF four-engine bombers shot down on the night of 29 June (15-16). On 1 August 1943, IV./NJG 4 was redesignated I./NJG 6. Wohlers retained command of the newly redesignated unit. By the end of 1943, Wohlers had increased his victory total to 28, including three RAF four-engine bombers shot down on the night of 10/11 August (18-20) and a further three on the night of 27/28 August (22-24). On 11 November, Wohlers was promoted to the rank of Major. Wohlers was awarded the Ritterkreuz on 31 December for 28 victories. Major Wohlers was appointed Kommodore of NJG 6 on 2 February 1944. On 15 March 1944, Wohlers undertook a transfer flight from Schleissheim to Echterdingen. His Bf 110 G-4 (W.Nr. 5353) suffered an engine failure and crashed attempting a landing in dense fog at Echterdingen. Wohlers and his crewman, Oberfeldwebel Karl Kleilein were killed. A passenger, a staff officer from 7. Jagddivision, Major M?nsterer, along to observe on the flight, was also killed. Heinrich Wohlers was credited with 29 victories. All his victories were recorded at night. 12. A wedge shaped edged weapon of the 3rd Reich, is the broad, bolo shaped survival machete used by the Luftwaffe. The breakthrough towards positive identification occurred, when an unknown photograph was found in a 1942 issue of ?Die Woche? (Berlin, issue 6, 11 February 1942) that not only shows the machete, but also its intended use. A copy of the photograph from ?Der Woche? is included in this volume. The magazine describes the machete as a ?survival axe the can be found on board of the He 111 bombers that serve on the eastern front?. The machete formed part of a larger survival kit that was used on board of planes. Although the machete was normally not worn at the hip, the survival kit included a holster in green canvas. The only known maker of this sidearm is the large Solingen manufacturer of edged weapons from, Alexander Koppel (Alcoso).
