Kjell , I,ve been thinking about doing a book on 1957 awards but i,m simply too busy at the moment . Your right this area of German history does need a dedicated book , there is a couple of books out there but they are basic and hard to find . Regards Grant
Never seen an Assman marked Ek1 before , but i have an Assman marked 1957 glider pilot badge and it looks to be the same marking . Is it correct Assman never made glider pilot badges either ?
Hello Guys , As i,m a total novice when it comes to East German awards i would like to know which is the rarest / hardest to find award ? also is this the most expensive ? are these rarer awards being faked ? Thanks Grant
Hello All , I came across this group on Ebay : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Can anyone give me the rough value of the medal or better still the group ? ( i know it should be in the valuation froum but thoguht i,d get a better response here ) . I would like to bid on this group as i collect medals to my surname but don't want to go too far with it as i don't know how much the red cross medal is worth . Thanks all ! Cheers Grant
Cheers Darrell , A mate of mine has a medal / jeweller,s and an old lady came in the other day with a group of WW2 medals which included the aircrew and said they were her uncle,s who was killed flying on the bomber,s but it had no paperwork . It doesn't harm to doublecheck so i,ll get it and compare to these . Thanks
Hello Guys , I,ve been offered an Aircrew Europe and just wanted to know how to spot a real " un " from a fake as these are a tad expensive for a WW2 medal . Cheers Grant
Just to add to what Gordon said you can find these cast cheap and nasty newly made pieces in abundance on Ebay . Check the pictures of the backs , if you can't tell wether they are cast off the picture on badges the usual giveaway is big flat rivets . Early pieces are by far the better quality wise and are well worth hunting down .
I,m not sure on the age of this set , the front looks ok nicely cut out but the back looks to be cast ? or it could just be the photo . The plastic case is a 57er i,ve seen similar cases for the DKIG , DKIS and wound badge in gold .
Thanks Guys I think the tunic is private purchase as the arm patch it has i,ve never seen before as a bullion type just plain cotton . I,ll post pictures of her when i re-apply the ribbon bar
I never had the pleasure to meet this brave man but Gordon has i think , as he was president of the knights cross holder,s association and i think Gordon got to know him quite well .
