Netherlands Foreign awards to Belgians WWI
love4history replied to love4history's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Oh Yes, forgot to ask: question for Dante: you mentioned that the medals for the Belgian agent were confirmed by Belgian Secret Service Records. I'm interested in the sources. What source(s) did you use. Do you have anything on paper that you could show us? thanks Roel -

I guess a 17 GBP price would be acceptable to most of you? -
BWM to Belgians
love4history replied to love4history's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Hello everybody Thanks for the link Tony. Next to the practical info being the MIC exemple it just was a funny and interesting topic to read I'll keep you informed Jan, but negotiations for the price are still under way. Seller asking a bit too much to my taste. Would anyone venture to put a value on a BWM to a Belgian agent, no research done, MIC exists but not downloaded yet? cheers -
BWM to Belgians
love4history replied to love4history's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Hello Michael Thanks for the pointer. Didn't realise that these people might have a MIC as well. I already found the man, indeed as a Belgian agent. I already opened negotiations with the seller for the medal Might order the MIC when I get the medal. Does anyone have an idea what might appear on a card for a "Belgian agent"? Seems to me the info would rather be small? Obviously no theatre of entry or such, so only the name and the BWM entitlement? Anybody knows? -
Hello gentlemen, rumour has it that . Two questions: A: Can anyone confirm that this "register" for "foreign" BWM's exists? B: Is anyone going to Kew shortly who would consider looking up one single name of a Balgian to verify the BWM? (I have located the BWM in a shop) Thanks and cheers from Flanders?

Netherlands Foreign awards to Belgians WWI
love4history replied to love4history's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Hallo Hendrik No, I'm afraid Joannes isn't among the 7 people mentioned. But our database isn't complete yet. Still missing about 15000 people I think (one book isn't indexed yet). And obviously the source (de Guldenboeken themselves) isn't complete itself so we will never be able to claim a 100% complete database. Thanks for the support cheers Roel -

Thanks for the information. Indeed the BWM awarded to Belgians is rarely mentioned. In the 70000+ database I only find 7 recipients. -
Hello everybody, We're not there yet but we're getting there... Guldenbookprojecthttp://www.tenboome.webruimtehosting.net/guldenboek/Guldenboekprojecttotaal/ (The site's in English, Dutch and French by the way) So far we have data on 72396 individual Belgian soldiers who survived WWI. The data include name (obviously), place of residence (in the 30's), rank, unit served in, time spent at the front, wound stripes, possibly even a picture .. What some of you might perhaps will not now is that not all info is shown on the website... but available on request to the administrator of the site (or myself)... more particularly the medal entitlement of the individual soldiers is also available.. including foreign awards granted... For exemple I'll give you the number of INDIVIDUAL recipients of 4 British awards that we have information on. DSO: # 32 DCM: # 67 MM: # 80 MC: # 117 We could do the same for French awards, Russian etc... Perhaps the site might come in handy for phaleristic research as well, next to the use for genealogical and local-history research. cheers

Group splitting by sellers
love4history replied to new world's topic in Preservation & Restoration of Military Artifacts
Hi there, The only real group I have (14-15star, BWM and Vic) I got from eBay after having to win three different sales. At least one that was saved there. What I was wondering about, why hasn't there been a site created between collectors where one could list his/her incomplete groups, so maybe someday the medals could be reunited again? -

Netherlands Belgian WW1 Diploma...
love4history replied to Chris Boonzaier's topic in Northern European & Baltic States
Hello, I'm happy that you found a pic of one of your distant cousin. I agree that you definitely should frame the medals and a picture of him Would like to inform as well that by now we already have had frequent updates of the list and have passed the 66000. You can search on familyname, place of residence or unit served in. As the number by now exceeds the excell-maximum we had to cut up the index into the different books/years. This makes it a bit more unpractical to search but at least the list is still on-line and searchable. We will try to devise other more practical searchtools in the future. If you haven't visited the site yet, you should definitely have a look on: http://www.tenboome.webruimtehosting.net/g...kprojecttotaal/ It contains an english portal as well And as always, any comments are welcome in the guestbook. -
Soviet Soviet Mystery Jacket
love4history replied to love4history's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Goodmorning gentlemen, Thank you for your expert advise! Seller hasn't replied to my questions on the origin of the jacket (surprise surprise ) If he does come up with something I'll definitely let you know. Will try to get hold of other pictures. Don't worry, I didn't intend to buy this item. IMO If you don't know anything about the specialty it's better to buy from a safe source anyway. Was just curious -
Soviet Soviet Mystery Jacket
love4history replied to love4history's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Hello Ed, Thanks for your Afghanis Well, honesty forces me to say that the seller didn't claim that the vet actually defected from Afghanistan. Just that he was in Afghanistan for 3 years, had a long military career, and defected in 1992. I've sent him an email to see for further evidence/paper work. Let's see how evasive he gets on that eh Looking forward to hear from these experts if these medals even would be at all possible in this combo?? cheers -
Soviet Soviet Mystery Jacket
love4history replied to love4history's topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Hello Ed, Mind sharing those thoughts? I don't mind if they aren't very encouraging. As said, I don't know ... about Soviet awards but the Jacket just looks impressive. It's advertised as belonging to a Vet of the Afghan war who defected.. -

Goodafternoon Gentlemen, Given the topic of this (and other) research subjects you might be interested in this (new) site: http://www.tenboome.webruimtehosting.net/g...kprojecttotaal/ It's an ongoing project so a little bit of patience is in order, but the 32000 names and the general information already warrant a visit IMHO(next update scheduled next week with 1000). And oh yes, the main parts of the site are in Dutch, English and French to accomodate our international visitors. Please feel free to leave any opinions/advise etc.. in the guestbook Hope sooner or later you might find just that little piece of information you're looking for in there Not going to tell you anymore and ruin the surprise just have a look, you'll probably like what you're seeing cheers from Belgium!
