Hello David, an important source is the Regimental History. There was a Waldeck Fusilier Battalion up to 1862; after that date it went under Prussian control. In 1867 the Battalion was disbanded and 16 officers and 182 men joined the 83rd Prussian Infantery Regiment. These troops formed the 3rd Battalion of the Regiment, which garrison was Waldeck`s capital - Arolsen. The new name of the Regiment was "Infanterie-Regiment von Wittich (3. Kurhessisches) Nr. 83". Prince Friedrich of Waldeck was the chief of it from 1913. The Regiment formed part of the 22nd Prussian Division in the war of 1870-71 and even in WW-1.
