Hi, The one on the right must be a Leib Regiment officer... I am wondering if these are not the Bothmer family?

This would fit sperr 100% for 1915.... he did not serve in the leib regiment during the war.... HOWEVER... he had 17 years service before the war and that is not mentioned in ancestry in detail... just "17 years service up til 1914"

Hi, 100% Leib Regt Major... although he may have been a captain in 1914 and posted to a different regiment like 1 BRIR... the uniforn is however Leiber Major.

I got both pieces from Weitze... the Überrock and pants they bought at the auction, the Litewka, riding pants and cap was bought by someone at the auction, then traded to Weitze

The Blue Bavarian Litewka is a pretty scarce item, simply because, in the postwar years and depression, it was probably the MOST suited uniform jacket for civilian conversion. For that reason you probably see a dozens of Fieldgrey tunics, jacket, blouses for every Litewka. On the left is an unusual one with no breast pocket. Very occasionally when you see photos of groups of officers, do you see one without a breat pocket, In the middle is one which belonged to v. Leonrod, ex Cavalry Officer then Flügeradjutant fo Prinz Ludwig, then Oberstallmeister to King Lüdwig III (The Bavarian equivalent to the British Royal Court's "Master of the Horse") then finally Obersthoffmeister (Lord Chamberlain) for King Ludwig III Then the Überrock for von Leonrod with the Velvet collar of the Flügeladjutant. v. Leonrod can be seen on both period photos below as part of Ludwig's entourage (He is both times on the right with the "Seen" in green) Last photo I saved some time ago, i am not sure who it belongs to...

The Obersthofmeister seems to have been the head of the royal court, responsible for planning, royal visits, day to day running of the palaces and a host of other tasks. What would his title be in the UK? or other countries with a royal court? Thanks Chris

Hi, definitely not cav, that is 7th Infantry Regt. If you mean the guy 3 to the left of the officer, he looks like the round headed Bavarian Stereotype... There is a Bavarian "look"... "Oh Gott, schau hin, ich glaub das ist der letzte echte Bayer Aber haaregenau Mann, so wie der ausschaut das kann ja nur ein Bayer sein Ein großer Kopf mit roten Ohren und er kotzt grad wie ein Reiher Ja man er kotzt grad wie ein Reiher in sein dreizwanz'ger BMW"

Hi, Foe the one on the right in Brass, definately not military, I assume one of the many Leiberverein, either as a Fahnenspitze or as a Tisch dekoration for the Verein. the one hidden away on the bottom left was for the flag of the Leiberverein Kaiserslautern.

I do not think it is a tourist piece, too well made.... lets not forget, for every Ghurka Kukri or presentation piece there are probably half a dozen period civilian ones.... Not everything has a military connection. I have 2 nice quality ones which I dig out when the wife wants to cull the chickens, both are commercial WW2 era ones sold to soldiers in theater during the war. In the case of the two i have, both were American soldiers, onr to an officer with his name.

I just saw this today.... I realise people can join when they are younger than 18, but did not know they could be sent into combat? The Foreign Legion takes 17 and a half, but by the time they are trained and land up in a unit they would be 18. Even with huge personnel shortages you usually find German soldiers in WW1 (even in 1918) were over 18 before landing at the front... So 2 KIA at 17 years of age really surprised me here... 38 years ago today and over the next couple of days .... Men of 3 PARA were fighting in the battle for Mount Longdon. 23 men were killed, Two of the dead – Privates Ian Scrivens and Jason Burt – were only seventeen years old, and Private Neil Grose was killed on his 18th birthday. I just completed the Bavarian Jäger setup.... The Greatcoat is a scarce "Fähnrich" Greatcoat... as a Fähnrich was supposed to become an officer, they had privately purchased double breasted Greatcoats which could be turned into officers by simply moving the buttons . Here is a study front and back
