    1. I have probably posted this, but stumbled across this one while sorting docs for the book.... What is interesting.. it seems the Germans just sent blanc docs to be filled, stamped and signed by the Austrians. Of course the award would have been approved by the German Commanding General that the Austrians were attached to.... Unless 5 crosses were Authorised and the Austrians could choose who to give then to.....
    2. Hi, there is a huuuuuuuuuge variety of these...... Units did basically whatever they wanted on wound badge designs, with some fantastic results....
    3. His decorative EK1 Notice the difference between the EK2 and EK1 doc... in each case the battles have been filled up up to the award date....
    4. This is part of a nice group.... the guy got his preliminary docs... then the Unit made up som BIG decorative docs..... EK2
    5. That is really, really nice.... I would love a French or German generals jacket, especially a named one....
    6. I am ashamed to say I know nothing about the medal, Uniform, Rank or single eppaulete... Does anyone know what he is? Thanks Chris
    7. This is a very interesting stamp..... It seems that at this early date the exact designation of the Sturmbataillons was not yet cleared..... a Short time later it would be Sturm-Bataillon Nr.3
    8. What you mean the right side ?... :-) Back in 1899 the whole world supported the Boers... other than this Burnham dude... I did read an account of some Americans who travelled to SA to join the Boers, and when they got there they found it easier to join the Brits... reminded me of a few guys I knew who went to the Balkans in the early 90s and joined whichever side they could... just looking for adventure, not bothered about the politics...
    9. Hi, It was only ion early 1916 that Units were required to issue documents at all. Many had by then already issued docs on their own initiative, but many early 1916 docs are "catch ups" for guys who had recieved awards but no docs in 1914-15. I had floated this theory for a few years, based on observation, then the Wernitz book nailed it by finding an order/Statute. By 1917 things seem to have been more or less up and running... I would say (as a rough rule of thumb) docs usually followed a few days to sometimes a month or so after the award. It is only possible to know when you have one of the docs with an award date AND the date it was signed.... or if there is a Militärpass with it.
    10. Hi, first thing to note with this doc.... the award could have been made at any date before the doc was issued... I think you would be safe to say, "sometime" in the period they were at flanders. Best Chris
    11. Here is a small write up about Novica Lukic, It is in French... http://www.pogledi.rs/fr/tchetnik-dans-la-legion-etrangere/
    12. Hi, I know they are simply artists impressions... but would you say the doc top left has M07/10 swedish cuffs for Pionier and the next one (top right) has more or less changed to look more M15 Felbblusey? http://www.kaiserscross.com/40029/441101.html Thanks Chris
    13. Whenever I see a Ebay Auction and the seller says "Here is the cover, I cannot read whats inside..." I think... "you probably can... and thats why you dont show the inside ;-)" Never sell a Militärpass without knowing whats in it! ;-)
    14. Hi Jock, The difference between a EUR10 pass and a EUR1000 can be a simple line or two on Page X .... I never write a Militärpass off until I have seen the details.... :-)
    15. Do you concentrate on looking for MG ones, or are there for some rason proportionally more MG ones? I ask because all my war time marked bayonets seem to be MG units...
