    1. Fantastic!!!!! I would love to see the entries for the Verdun period! Where did you find this????
    2. Indeed, the proof is what was missing.
    3. Dong! Damn, I missed that somehow... yes, about the same wording but a regular printed document, specific to the 56th Infantry regiment. Of some importance 8to me anyway) is that both units with this on their doc are from the 14th ID. Best Chris
    4. OK.... I have found the missing link.... Black on white that the OFFICIAL Certificates for the Iron Cross 1914 were to be awarded by the central ordens commision after demobilisation. There have been hints at this, especially after the kaisers order in 1918 that all docs issued should be considered to be the final one... but anything predating that has been elusive (to me in any event). Now I have a mid war doc with the text "this document is a preliminary document, the official doc will be awarded by the Ordens commission after demob"... For me pretty much the missing link... :-)))))))))
    5. Look mate, just because you are wholefully and utterly pig ignorrant about the Politically correct term for large boned South American lambada singer of Yiddish traditional songs does not mean you have to become cheeky now....
    6. Which may make him one of the youngest ever recipients! He also had the apply and buy Austrian, Bulgarian ans Hungarian stuff...
    7. This is a contract for a 15 year old to serve as a sailor in the korps...
    8. The Freiwillige Motorboot Corps was not part of the German navy, it was a volunteer paramilitary association that guarded internal waterways. It is just coincidence that this was attached to the Marinekorps....
    9. So.. anyone curious as to what i found???????
    10. This is a strange one.... he qualified for this for fighting in November 1916... in December 1916 he turned 16...

    15. Yeah... I am guessing you dont have to bother thumbing through his books looking for the dirty bits.....
    16. Somehow, with hair style and clothes he looks very post hippie, coffee shop intellectual, müsli eating birkenstock wearing 90s kinda guy.....
    17. Hi, Am not to sure of the rule, but "K" and "C" were sometimes used for "Klasse" and "Classe" cmap "Komp." and "Comp." Best Chris
    18. Hi, Wehkreis issued EK docs are usually for me who were seriously wounded and repatriated to a hospital in the wehrkreis. Regulations allowed an automatic award of an EK2 to men qualifying for a silver wound badge. This was done irrespective of a brave act. So the Wehrkreis commander could automatically make the award without having to contact the unit to find out if the award was warrented. Best Chris

    21. I always thought issue tunics with replaced, higher, collars (i.e. collars with 2 hooks) were officers or senior NCOs only. I recently saw a few low ranking dudes with obviously replaced higher collars... Was this allowed or just tolerated? Thanks Chris
    22. Very nice indeed!! Is it a WW1 era piece?
