Does anyone have a pic of one of these being worn? Must have looked rather dramatic on the uniform.... -
Dutch close combat knives...
Chris Boonzaier replied to J Temple-West's topic in Swords & Edged Weapons
Maybe, but I think it would simply be a classic design carried over from century to century... -
Oh bugger... after seeing the spangen stuck I thought it was maybe fake after all and I did a polishing experiment to see what the base metal was... Now it is bronze, no longer with a dark patina dark... But I do see the microscopic makersmark.. Guess i have to wait another 90 years to regain the patina :-( (I know, Me was silly... noone needs to rub it in...)

What is better than finding a rare book you never knew existed about a battle you are obsessed with ? (That takes care of the research interest....) Well, finding it was printed by the division in 1916..... and is as such, technically militaria.... And not a small booklet, but a regular size with 230 pages !!! Has anyone seen tis one before?

I have to blush here.... ......BLUSH...... I am very, very, very interested in the battle of verdun, have visited the battlefields often, concentrate on verdun awarded docs etc. etc. etc... For ages I have meant to get the Verdun Medal to display... but never got around to buying one. I knew there were 6-7 makers, collectors being able to tell one from the other... What i did NOT know... each maker made a totally different medal. They just called them up and said "Hey Louis.... make a decorative bronze medal with "Verdun" on it......." And they churned out 6-7 totally different medals !!!!!! I have ordered my first one..... doe anyone else have any to show?
