    1. A pity they cropped the photo so tightly.... :-(
    2. Hats off to them. Fielding a unit like this takes guts, If they are a success I volunteer to buy them all a beer ! http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6314263.stm
    3. Does anyone have a pic of one of these being worn? Must have looked rather dramatic on the uniform....
    4. Maybe, but I think it would simply be a classic design carried over from century to century...
    5. It was at a Militaria bookdealers... alucky find...
    6. There are some interesting details, for instance the demag bayonet in Rambos teeth, the long pionier spade carried by many soldiers, gasmask in canvas bag etc. Finding it made me a happy boyo....
    7. It contains 30 pictures, copies of watercolours, all dealing with the cadre, characters and men of the divisional Sturmkompagnie... Here is a few of thepics for your enjoyment...
    8. About a week ago I found this... It is a large folder, printed on the Somme by the 9th Reserve Division...
    9. Oh bugger... after seeing the spangen stuck I thought it was maybe fake after all and I did a polishing experiment to see what the base metal was... Now it is bronze, no longer with a dark patina dark... But I do see the microscopic makersmark.. Guess i have to wait another 90 years to regain the patina :-( (I know, Me was silly... noone needs to rub it in...)
    10. Here is a medal group for sale to one of the guys he shot down... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14720 man, those two together would be an amazing bit of history !!!!!
    11. I would like to... but I would have to kill you afterwards... ;-) Gimme some time, I am renovating at the moment and have pots of paint on me scanner....
    12. No you didnt.... you just think you did..... a similar one..... but not this one..... was something totally different... nothing to do with WW1 at all........... I think it was to do with Volkswagen repairs or something.... its the color of the cover thats fooling you... they are kinda similar....
    13. Hi USD 300 with a CDG and a Indochine medal. Best Chris
    14. Out of my collecting field, maybe a bit overpriced.... but oh. oh, oh so rare and i assume enough to get any document collector drooling..... Photo from Wittworldwide.... I think this must be allowed to speak for itself....
    15. What is better than finding a rare book you never knew existed about a battle you are obsessed with ? (That takes care of the research interest....) Well, finding it was printed by the division in 1916..... and is as such, technically militaria.... And not a small booklet, but a regular size with 230 pages !!! Has anyone seen tis one before?
    16. I have to blush here.... ......BLUSH...... I am very, very, very interested in the battle of verdun, have visited the battlefields often, concentrate on verdun awarded docs etc. etc. etc... For ages I have meant to get the Verdun Medal to display... but never got around to buying one. I knew there were 6-7 makers, collectors being able to tell one from the other... What i did NOT know... each maker made a totally different medal. They just called them up and said "Hey Louis.... make a decorative bronze medal with "Verdun" on it......." And they churned out 6-7 totally different medals !!!!!! I have ordered my first one..... doe anyone else have any to show?
    17. For instance... post 4 on here... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14546
    18. Hi, are you sure about that? All the ones i see at shows are brownish. seems to be a patina of some kind. I have never seen a gilt one :-(
    19. Hi Dave, That indeed looks like a very possible match. Cav officers seem to have been regularly detached for such positions. The seller said "Von Manstein" but at second glance, it takes a bit too much imagination to see that...
    20. Did I get a good almost mint piece for EUR60.. or is this a new generation fake? I think th former, but it is not my usual field. Anyone know where I can get ribbon?
    21. Very nice display! How about the thread with the various types of Guards insignia ?
