    1. There was also the Kaiserliches Automobilekorps where volunteer drivers served, brought their own cars and I think were given officer rank. David Gregory could maybe help there... I think these were taken over into the army at some stage. Best Chris
    2. Nothing worse to track down than these Fussartillerie-Batterie 396, Kanonier Robert Witt was awarded the Iron Cross on the 17 October 1916, the batterie was part of the XV. Reservekorps. It was awarded for fighting from 1914-15 on the Western and eastern front where he was wounded and in the Vogesen in 1916. More info there is not. In the book on the Feldartillery I have found Nada, anyone have any ideas
    3. Thanks, did the prince have any active service in the war? I cannot find him in any of the bavariangeneral histories .....
    4. A question to this..... "In 1914 Personal Adjutant of Prince Alfons of Bavaria, with uniform of Chevauleger Regiment 7 Rittmeister 19.5.16" Do you think he was Adjutant to the Prinz... or to "Chevauleger Regiment 7 "Prinz Alfons"" The Prince was alive and kicking until 1933, but I find no mention of active WW1 service (I am sure someone has better books than me on this level) It is however highly possible that the regt provided the Prinz with an officer as an assistnt as the regt was named after him.
    5. Its great to see Bender is going A4 ! and you are the busy bee! you will have the "Most prolific author" title soom ....
    6. His parents probably sent the text to the printers ... dad saying to mom "What was the name of the silver badge he had with the tank on it ?"
    7. From what I can see... this would have to be Bavarian 4th Reserve Infantry Regt. On the back of the photo is St Mihiel 1917. The 4 b.R.I.R. was there for a short spell after being withdrawn from the battle of the Aisne. A question about the medals. Would a MVK3rd class with swords be a possibility?
    8. It is a good site... i had lost the link some time ago. Thanks for posting it. Best Chris
    9. Before I order this book for a kings ransom... Can you confirm if VA Coaker is pictured as CO (or at all)... or if he has any worthwhile mentions? Thanks Chris
    10. Anyone ever heard of the 2 volume series "Generalfeldmarschall graf von Shlieffen - Dienstschriften", published by the German General Staff in 1937 ? All I can say is ...... WOW ! a war gamers wet dream... even if you just have a glance at the maps.....
    11. Thanks, I have spent the last week trying to track them down. Even in the bavarian histories they barely get a mention. Best Chris
    12. Any idea of where old Ritter von H was after May 1916? I have his as chief of staff 3. AOK, commander of the 2. GID... then a year later commanding the G.K. XV. b.RK... but where in between ? Thanks Chris
    13. Is that a one piece EK? it looks like it could be a bit dangerous IMHO.
