    1. A South African who served in GermanSouth west Africa, then joined the Royal artillery and lost his legs in France in 1918
    2. Here are two more. The 6 bar is nice because it is mainly battle bars, also to an Afrikaaner. Trooper H.T. Coetzee of Kitcheners Horse, am not sure if he had a KSA. the other is not to a South African although he settled in South Africa after the war. He was a Scot, Surgeon J.A. Robertson.
    3. Here are 2. The one is to this guy http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=3339 The other to Private A.J. joubert of the Graaff-Reinet town guard. Like my relative above, he was a Cape Afrikaaner who was not to impressed with the cousins from over the border.
    4. a nice one to an Argyl and Sutherland highlander... Modder river, Magersfontein etc...
    5. Here you go... the only set of Boer war medals to a boonzaier... and he was on the baddies side! My whole life long I have had to put up with people not knowing how topronounce my name... or how to spell it... and on the QSA... the name is wrong.. Broonzaier instead of Boonzaier I have a complicated family tree I found online... this guy must be an uncle of some sort... if anyone knows how to read these trees, give me a shout!
    6. Hi, I am trying to land BOTH... and make a pig of myself ;-)
    7. Way cheaper, but nowhere near as nice... http://www.emedals.ca/catalog.asp?item=F212
    8. I like this one as a no BS really old one... but 95 british pounds...
    9. I have seen one for sale with the medal for crazy money.... But it is not the version I have seen online.... Is their anyone who can give a quick lesson on this and tell me how much I should expect to pay? As it was very much a legion battle I would like very much to get one...
    10. Hi Jim, There are a number of good books, mostto be found on Ebay I think. A good easy read but very intresting none the less is "Battles of the Boer War" by W. Baring Pemberton a totally, super classic account from maybe the most famous young Boer is "Commando" by Deneys Reitz, it is his autobiography and was7is very widely acclaimed. best Chris
    11. Hi Ed. Thanks for the info, indeed you are right, sewn to a backing with hooks, french style. The war star has one ribbon with a silver star, and one with 2 bronze stars. best Chris
    12. The yellow and green ribbons are apparently "war stars" Can anyone help me "read" this ribbon bar and give me an idea of who would have gotten this kind of combination? Thanks Chris
    13. A friend found these and asked me to try and value them for him.. maybe the members can help me out, I have no idea as it is not really my field.
    14. I think where they belong is in the eye of the individual collector. Of course, India is independant, but for a collector there may be other ways of seeing it. For a specialist like Ed they are a totally independant collecting field, but to a collector of mainly Brit medals who has a couple of post 47 groups they may just be an "Epilog to the Empire" thing, dispalyed with pre 47 medals. In the same way, I am well aware that South Africa is independant, but I would probably end up showing South African medals here, ditto for Rhodesion medals after Ian Smith broke away from Britain. They may not be brit, but the traditions go back...
