    1. Otto Theobald Wilhem Simon... I think you nailed it.... I suspected a pre war officer mobilized into another unit (here Brigade ersatz Batln Nr. 1), that is why he is not in the leiber book.... He was originally 2 b.I.R. then 1904 Hauptmann d. Lw, then 1907 Reserve officer of the Leib Regiment. Magic! Thanks
    2. Man, it gets on my goat.... I do not like people cutting and pasting my pics, but such is life, for ones I want to use myself I put a watermark.... but I realize posting them in postage stamp size helps no one... For a number of years I have been getting more and more frustrated with a German seller.... he scans on a flatbed, does not crop out all the back, and the pics are so small you cannot see any detail.... over the years I have DOZENS of times seen pics where I was pretty sure I would take them, depending on a few details, and clicked on them only to see they are way too small to see if the soldiers are bavarian, if you can read a shoulder strap etc... I thought it was because he was worried about folks stealing his images... but then once I mailed him and asked him for better scans as I was sure 2 pics would be for me, he replied he could not be bothered with pics in that price range... they were 30-40EUR a piece.... So starting this week I just wanted to share my frustration about a dude who would have moved at least 20-25 of relatively expensive pics that he has had in over and over and over again.... may weevils eat his bazoonkas! What irritates you about imperial ebay sellers?
    3. Indeed yes, Leib Regiment officers who mobilised in other infantry regiments also continued to wear their Leib egiment uniforms.
    4. Christophe managed to pull up the following.... "I have got Hauptmann Franz Sperr who was Adj AOk von Hindenburg. He received EH3aX on 9 November 1914. " I assume he was no longer in the Leib Regt when this was taken, was however still entitled to the uniform? Can anyone confirm it was Sperr? Thanks Chris
    5. Hi, The one on the right must be a Leib Regiment officer... I am wondering if these are not the Bothmer family?
    6. This would fit sperr 100% for 1915.... he did not serve in the leib regiment during the war.... HOWEVER... he had 17 years service before the war and that is not mentioned in ancestry in detail... just "17 years service up til 1914"
    7. Hi, 100% Leib Regt Major... although he may have been a captain in 1914 and posted to a different regiment like 1 BRIR... the uniforn is however Leiber Major.
    8. Hi, so I am looking for a Leib Regiment Major who got it before he got asn EK1? Thanks Chris
    9. Hi, does anyone know what this could be? I assume 1914-1915 on a Leib Regiment officer?
    10. I got both pieces from Weitze... the Überrock and pants they bought at the auction, the Litewka, riding pants and cap was bought by someone at the auction, then traded to Weitze
    11. The Blue Bavarian Litewka is a pretty scarce item, simply because, in the postwar years and depression, it was probably the MOST suited uniform jacket for civilian conversion. For that reason you probably see a dozens of Fieldgrey tunics, jacket, blouses for every Litewka. On the left is an unusual one with no breast pocket. Very occasionally when you see photos of groups of officers, do you see one without a breat pocket, In the middle is one which belonged to v. Leonrod, ex Cavalry Officer then Flügeradjutant fo Prinz Ludwig, then Oberstallmeister to King Lüdwig III (The Bavarian equivalent to the British Royal Court's "Master of the Horse") then finally Obersthoffmeister (Lord Chamberlain) for King Ludwig III Then the Überrock for von Leonrod with the Velvet collar of the Flügeladjutant. v. Leonrod can be seen on both period photos below as part of Ludwig's entourage (He is both times on the right with the "Seen" in green) Last photo I saved some time ago, i am not sure who it belongs to...
    12. The Obersthofmeister seems to have been the head of the royal court, responsible for planning, royal visits, day to day running of the palaces and a host of other tasks. What would his title be in the UK? or other countries with a royal court? Thanks Chris
    13. Wow,,, that is indeed a cool group! How did you identify it?
    14. Dave, that is astounding! I was never able to find any useful details about him... that is 5 times more than i was able to find in 10 years or more. Muchos Grazias!
    15. Hi, definitely not cav, that is 7th Infantry Regt. If you mean the guy 3 to the left of the officer, he looks like the round headed Bavarian Stereotype... There is a Bavarian "look"... "Oh Gott, schau hin, ich glaub das ist der letzte echte Bayer Aber haaregenau Mann, so wie der ausschaut das kann ja nur ein Bayer sein Ein großer Kopf mit roten Ohren und er kotzt grad wie ein Reiher Ja man er kotzt grad wie ein Reiher in sein dreizwanz'ger BMW"
    16. Indeed I should! but here at home I can fawn over the goodies and say "All mine!"
    17. Hi, Foe the one on the right in Brass, definately not military, I assume one of the many Leiberverein, either as a Fahnenspitze or as a Tisch dekoration for the Verein. the one hidden away on the bottom left was for the flag of the Leiberverein Kaiserslautern.
    18. I do not think it is a tourist piece, too well made.... lets not forget, for every Ghurka Kukri or presentation piece there are probably half a dozen period civilian ones.... Not everything has a military connection. I have 2 nice quality ones which I dig out when the wife wants to cull the chickens, both are commercial WW2 era ones sold to soldiers in theater during the war. In the case of the two i have, both were American soldiers, onr to an officer with his name.
    19. 2 Pics split from the same album.... who are the most highly decorated dudes (Same regiment)
