    1. Trained then posted to the FW regiment... and there he must have got a new pass as this one was almost full by then..
    2. Unfortunately Pionier Friedrich Kämpfe seems to have been issued a new Pass along the way, but this is his original pass...
    3. Its rather basic and dated, but probably a collectors piece in its own right.
    4. Here is an interesting (and I assume now rare) book on German uniforms. Published in 1968, you can download it here... http://www.archive.org/details/1871-1918GermanArmyNavyUniformsInsignia
    5. Here you go... one of the good things about ciggie cards... you dont even need to collect a full set to follow a theme.... http://www.kaiserscross.com/40117/310022.html
    6. Hmm... not neccisarily.... part of this fleet escaped to France. When the Germans marched to try and take over the fleet the French commander (Who had also been in command during the British attack) scuttled the fleet before the Germans could lay hands on the ships. He then sent a letter to Churchill saying he had done his honorable duty, as he would have done at Mers El Kebir if the Germans had tried to take over the ships. So basically the whole tragedy was... it seems the attack was done "incase" the French gave the ships to the Germans, and later they showed they would not have given them over...
    7. Hi, there are alos small silk cards, are they cigarette cards as well? they are a bit bigger, with similar motives, would have to have been folded in the packs though....
    8. Here is a page from an autograph book, Foch and Botha together with someone I cannot place..
    9. For me maybe the greatest South African, a great General, a great statesman and a great Human Being. Louis Botha was returning to South Africa after the Treaty of Versailles. He was sick on the voyage and would die a month after his return. This Photo of the Ship is signed by Louis Botha, his Wife, His Son (Capt. Louis Botha), daughter and Secretary/Biographer Engelenberg. Also by two people (looks like "Innes").. It is a fantastic bit of South African history...
    10. Staged during the war, but very interesting.... http://www.criticalpast.com/video/65675044416_318th-Infantry-Regiment_80th-Division_American-Expeditionary-Force_hand-grenade
    11. I think the Belgians had French masks... this looks like a US/UK mask
    12. Personally I find the portrait cards to be the best. i am sure there is many an obscure soldier/General/etc. who, if you are looking for a picture today, can only be found on a ciggie card. I am also sure that these would be totally forbidden today in most countries.
    13. Hi, Being on the Boers side .. (of course!) ... I must never the less agree with B.H.H., the German coverage of the war was in the "real" German books on occasion objective, but there were masses and masses and masses of really over the top propaganda in the form of pamphlets an postcard... Here is a mitxure of books... good and bad... all have rather dramatic covers. http://www.kaiserscross.com/60401/157764.html Then you had guys like Jooste in there with his speaking events... Lets also not forget... the Germans were Huge Boer supporters... until after the war when Botha, De la Rey and De Wet did a fund raising tour to get money to help rebuild the country... then the Germans kinda forgot they were supporters...
    14. .. I knew the names of the people on this photo..... This is General Botha's Staff in December 1902.... I have the medals to one of the men on the photo.... Just dont know which one he is.... http://www.kaiserscross.com/40117/155801.html
    15. Quite a few new sections since the last update... take a look... you will not regret it! http://www.kaiserscross.com/152301.html
    16. I have a collection of Photo-Cards Of Commandant "Koos" Jooste.... For the full selection see here.... :-) http://www.kaiserscross.com/40184/308401.html
    17. Nice set. Could he have been captured? Maybe with the date of the last entry it is possible to determine where he is likely to have been on the day of the last entry?
    18. Hi, I assume this poor guy is either British or american.... From the strip of what looks to be cotton, sewn insid the wool tuni... does anyone know what nationality he is? Thanks Chris
    19. Have hamstered away the odd card myself, sometimes the best and only way to find nice pictures of certain uniforms and generals. Best Chris
