    1. The whole war with an Infantry regiment, EK1 and 2...
    2. Another bit of Sliiiiiime... this time with Combat Credentials.... Wounded at Malancourt... which is one of my favorite corners of any battlefield... I assume French Artillery got him...
    3. I have had a number of things where the family wrote the name of the wearer/winner/user on it loooong after the event. In the style of "Uncle Bobs Sgt stripes that he wore at Bastogne" etc. Best Chris
    4. here is an interesting one... the guy could put his photo in and mail it,,,,
    5. Ahhhhh.... the traditional snapshot of the cop stuffing his face in the donut shop!!!!!
    6. I suppose to some recruiting Sgts Canadian French and Scottish accents may sound pretty similar? Or at least, the one as un-understandable as the other?

    8. can do when I get home. bestz Chris
    9. IF it is the guy in the bavarian archive, it seems he was wounded in Jan 1915 then did a few hospitals and was then in a Grenzschützbataillon until december 1917. I cannot find these in the regular army, it seems to be a kind of militia, maybe civvie status? Defending against the swiss? Awarded the KLK in December 1916... then returning to the army in december 1917 he got the EK in October 1918. best chris
    10. "I dont think 4) is just a reissue of an older doc (that happened often9 but it is actually a new award (on paper at least) as the award dates are different." I imagine the paperwork went haywire and when he got the second one he said "Ummmm... guys.... I think you make a mistake!" So... we can subtract 1 from the recognised total of awards.......
    11. Hi, is it Wilhelm Frieser ?
    12. I think you have+ 1) Prelim doc for EK2 2) Collective doc listing awards up until that time 3) EK1 doc 4) A NEW award of the EK1 as the left hand did not know what the right hand had already done. I dont think 4) is just a reissue of an older doc (that happened often9 but it is actually a new award (on paper at least) as the award dates are different. What a fantastic group!!!!!! My EK1 to a U-Boot is unfortunately to a member of the U-55, not a Niemoeller style crew, but the only crew to be involved in war crimes with the Kaptain sentenced to death for the murder of crews... :-(
    13. What we find here in Germany are very many Pro boer propaganda cards... some of really fantastic quality. Also very interesting are all the Pro Boer propaganda books... although some are also very objective histories as well... Here are 2 pages to feat your eyes on.... http://www.kaiserscross.com/60401/157764.html at some stage I will have time to get that section up and running....
    14. As this has turned into a mega rocka-rolla thread with fingers in every pie, I took the liberty of adjusting the title to show the scope of it all...

    16. Although the handle is different the sheath and blade are dead ringers for the brit machete
