      This one I found info on, The Cross of the Combat Volunteer 1914-18 Identical to the WW2 one apart the dates on the reverse, and inverted colours on the ribbon bar the yellow. This was authorised on the 4th Feb 1953 along with the WW2 one I think.

      Perhaps you guys can inform me on these a little more, I've searched high and low on the sites connected with French and other medals but I'll be blowed if I can find much. I'm stuck and can't find anything on some of these. French wound medal, I think this is a WW1 period one, there is another which is more solid and dosen't thave the cut outs inbetween the star arms. The reverse is just plain.

      Rev: I like the fact that the main middle bulk portion of the bow has a 'different' concept to that of the main ribbon, and the mini ribbon use, just shows the thought and detail in these. If it were Brit made, ample stictching and bugger the rest, make do and mend adoption. A nice example with a difference of a most common medal.

      My only feeble award really that I dare show, this was actually chosen by my wife Jo !!! And the only medal she's ever condoned me buying !!!! She actually liked it Since then it's back to normal and all are a waste of money, related to shoes, Tesco's and other more imortant spending...of course !!! Not to mention garden plants which she kills !! Kr Marcus

      Here's one trio to a 19625 Pte S.J Wood in the RAMC, later an Acting Corp (is that the same as what used to call 'substanstive' where you had a period of unpaid at proposed rank trial and behave ?) Kr Marcus

      When was Poland liberated 1944 perhaps ??? Or is that liberated and taken over by another bugger. I imagine it was some time in 1944, hence the date thus significant to the effect they were 'free'.

      Well you never know, because there were many of these issued to the Polish Veteran's post war, they had the fourth largest exile army during the war, and most guys never were awarded their medals (so I'm told) Yours could be a 40th Anni bestowal to a Vet.......very likely in fact I'd imagine.       Polnia Restituta means Poland Restored. It came in fives classes: Grand Cross Commander with Star Commander Officer And Knight We all have the Knight Order, it was instituted in Febuary 1921 and renewed in 1944. It was awarded to services rendered to Poland, art, culture, economy, defence and bravery.

      I think deeds in WW2, these were given out to all in sundry as recognition. A beautiful looking award, and 1979 or not it's boxed and you have the history I love it !! This the 1918 one, more modern in era I'd say too.

      Rick, What packageing did your Grandad's medal come in ? Was it a modern style box or other ? This is my period style boxed example.

      Beautiful box Gordon and rather like, 'rocking horse $$$$'. This RS&S came in a packet, found in a nice large retailors box......which could have been related the badge in association only (probably had lots of goodies in there at one time) or not, we'll never know for sure.

      Here's a citation for one, I've all the other doc's to this guy but no photo's though, he went on to get the EK on the 6 May 1945.

      And just to add to the interest......a ruddy fifth one, now this one must be very recent times as it's all chromey and bright
