    6. A good beginning... I'll be back in a while with some pictures.
    7. We also need to remember that it is important that KNOWLEGE be gathered and shared.... it is not just about which pretties you collect!
    8. As I'm at work, I'll have to post a link to a specimen of the beast on my site rather than a decent picture of it. Order of People's Friendship - http://www.medals.org.uk/russia/rf/rf001.htm
    9. Thanks for that, Ed - so probably best NOT to add it to my current Afghanistan listing until this is cleared up...
    10. So is this an official Afghani medal or a private-purchase commemorative?
    11. I'd be in favour as well... ... and of course it is excellent to have you here, Fran?ois, welcome!
    12. My college's net nanny has just blocked that site as 'pornography'.... Can't wait to get home to check it out now!
    13. http://www.medals.org.uk/greece/greece017.htm shows the Medal of Military Merit (1917). The Medal for Outstanding Acts - http://www.medals.org.uk/greece/greece018.htm - was introduced in 1940, originally using the 4th class of the Medal of Military Merit, but later getting its own design. Then in 1950 it was replaced by the Distinguished Conduct Medal - http://www.medals.org.uk/greece/greece016.htm - which is the one with red rather than black stripes on a yellow ribbon. That's still awarded, with appropriate design changes post-1974. Apologies for all the links, I'm at work so do not have the images to upload!
    14. Probably the Medal of Military Merit, instituted 28 February 1917 and awarded in 4 classes for heroism and leadership in combat.
    15. A fine display - thank you for sharing - museum-quality stuff. You've obviously worked very hard at this.
    16. Lovely, thank you for sharing. Is the bar actually supposed to be worn right at the top like that, do you think? How is it attached to the ribbon?

      Malawi Medals

Looking at the ribbons, if they have followed the British style that is indeed likely - LS&GC medals are in an appropriate colour with white edges, MSMs have an additional central white stripe.
    18. Just added this one to my site - and in rooting around discovered that it was instituted in 1985 by the Federation of Cuban Women, and awarded for work promoting family life, health and social care in the community. Quite where the firearms come in...?
    19. This is what the Australian warrant (dated 15 January 1991) says: "The decoration shall only be awarded for the most conspicuous gallantry or a daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacnfice or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy."
