Luftwaffe Rank and unit?
Mattyboy replied to Mattyboy's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs
Hi Turtle and Jeremy, Thanks a lot! If I find anything about his life and career, I'll be sure to let you know -
Hi, This has always been the source of great irritation for me - trying to identify uniform ranks and patches which I can never find online. Can anyone tell me what this guy's rank and unit is? Any idea of the medals displayed on his ribbon bar will be an added bonus The man's name is Hermann Walter. Thanks a lot, Matt.

Hi guys, Bernhard - thanks for the translation. It is possible that the place-names on the photo are pseudonyms. Tony - I believe this to be the plate (photo) number, 831. I don't know what aerodrome FFA 11 occupied on 30th March, but in mid-January 1916 they were in the Oise department of Picardy (Nothern France).

Hi, I am trying to identify the precise location being photographed here, but unfortunately I'm having trouble reading the handwriting below the section marked 'nähere Bezeichnung'. Also, can someone tell me what the writing on the actual photo means - it looks like Neusser-Weg, Glücksburger-Weg, Plöner-Weg, etc. Does this make any sense??? Thanks! Matt.

Ok, here is my dilemma: I'm looking for the name of a commissioned soldier, photo states that he was born in 1885, was in GFR (I assume this is Garde-Füsilier-Regiment) in 1910, transferred to the Fliegertruppe in 1916, and was awarded both classes of the EK and well as the Zähringer-Löwen Kommandeur Klasse (not sure if 1st or 2nd class) with swords. Is there a roll of recipients for this award? If so, I am hoping that it can be cross-checked against the pre-war officers of this regiment. I know it's a long-shot, but I can see that there are some pretty nifty guys out there.... Thanks & regards, Matt.
