Jock Auld replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs
Chris is right, it was a mixture, I posted the more interesting one already. -

Guys, I said the dodgey HJ badge has cost me 20 bucks so I owe it €20 of research but I am making no headway at all. The town of Euskirchen during the war was not that big and I suppose survived relatively unscathed. I have tried various searches for the above mentioned business that given its G.m.b.H. status would have been a successful small business, to give comparison today you need to clear €25k profit to even apply so it should be noteable within the town history. To be fair there is not much on line. Of note though is that there is a street named Agnes Deutschbein Strasse in the town so I wonder if the person was anything to do with this firm. I shall contact the town museum to see if they have any details about the size of the business at that time. If it was sizable and were successful then it would be fair to assume they had good equipment and tools ie good dies etc. Being an M1 retailer and looking at the margin they would have to achieve as I am assuming which may be wrong but I would have thought the expected turnover of a firm GMBH would be comparable to todays standards? I don't have that historical data but it would be a lot of badges if that was all they were making so I presume they made other things too? Here's the thing though, I have not found a single considered to be original badge manufactured by this company, my question is does anyone have one out there and a picture of its markings? I know it is only day one and I will do more searching but it just seems odd that if they were granted the M1 status that I can't find a badge so marked. There are a lot of SS skulls that tip up on search but they are universally deamed fake so I am wondering exactly what did they make? Lastly there are 3 names listed in the phone book in this town but I think it would be very rude to 'cold call' these folk on the off chance they are in some way connected to the wartime business, I would not want to cause offence. Any suggestions gratefuly recieved. Cheers

It is the fact that it is marked BM1 not M1 and the 11. That said it is internet chatter and we would not be the first to be fooled as it features in various books as original. I am going to have a proper search on this one and see when it fell out of favour and why ie evidence. It is the B and the 11 that sets it apart just got to find out why someone would make such a stupid error when copying something. The only book I have with it in is Neiman edition 3 p 359, but then that just highlights that these people make mistakes or even colude at times to authenticate items, thats why I laugh when a debate goes on then someone drops a name like it came from Weitze and that is supposed to be the proof. I owe it €20 worth of time!

Bernhard, Thanks for the detail. I would never have been able to work that out. What I find interesting is that it was up for discussion then if Stennes was unpopular. Was there more of a democratic debate on such matters or was it all simply to deride the person and his opinions, I guess we will never know but it would have been interesting to listen to. The poster format seem standard as I would guess they had various lectures at the time. Thanks.

Thank you for the info, I will do a bit more home work when I have time. It is not an area I focus on and to be honest I have never seen one in the hand before. I bought it at risk as a normal badge as the bloke that sold it thought it was a normal one. It was more than I would like to part with at €20 for a potential copy so that is good news, thanks again.

Guys, I am gutted that the SB was not there. The extract he has copied is probably for pension purposes. I searched and searched but half of the load had been baggered and outloaded. On the plus side this is a fine debue for me as I did not have the yellow driving license before. Looks like he worked for the Brits after the war.

Bundesrepublik Bundeswehr Officers Hat
Jock Auld replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Post 1945: Bundesrepublik & DDR
Does kind of ruin the look it seems cheap and nasty. -
Guys, Nice find today! You don't see this sort of day to day admin trivia that would have been posted for the local members, normaly thrown away after the event. The paper qualiity is very poor as well so I am pleased it has survived. I can't quite make out what the lecture or presentation is about, only that it appears to be by a Zepplinpilot? Also that 'Jews' are not welcome.
