Alex, I would think so since the reverse is so rusty and you can definately see it on the right as you look. I know it is nothing fancy but it was cheep and cheerful. A bit of fun!

Waffen ss visor cap
Jock Auld replied to Felix's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
What else is on it in terms of marking on the liner? I must say I have never had an original in my hand and don't think most folk have either, that includes some of the the self proclamed experts too. What do you think of it compared to what is online, depending on what you choose to believe. It really is a minefield, I hope it pans out ok for you. Not really my bag though! Best Regards -

I know the feeling, our 'deep latrine' at Basra Airport had very few floaters for a while, the whole Battery went down with the severe squirts. It was unpleasant to say the least! But not as bad as he had! -

Bayern, It is rayon at the reverse for sure, the red also has a bit of a sheen to it too the white is cotton probably. Here are som more pics best I can do, Although basic in design it has been 'complexley' engineered as per Germans habit! Note the multi piece construction of the red at the base. A couple more

8x60 "Fat Commanders"

Good job with the paint removal! -
Odulf, There were a load of more fancy ones all gold embroidered colourful etc. The base colour is olive green material of the rayon type used in late war jacket linings. The red front with basic cross is very simple compared to the others, I wish I had taken them now! In contrast this is somewhat boring! I was also thinking could be post war Bund or the likes? I am afraid I have little knowledge of religion as previously stated and will no doubt be going to hell. Bayern, Would you think it is for military use in this basic design? Cheers Rich

I pulled this one out of a bin, I think it is OK but not as good as ours were (3 RHA), I remember that a demand for new 'tin Soldier' uniform was placed and they received the 'new uniforms' from UK (Woolich) and they were pre WW1 dated, the first job was to remove the original buttons and replace them with staybright sheit! I kept a handfull of the original buttons somewhere.

Bernhard, You have that unique presence, you were there and you remember, I find that in itself facinating, I would enjoy a beer or two in your presence just to listen to what you have experienced. It is a shame 'the pond' is in the way. I remember our S6 and then S10 mask but they have a new fandangled mask now. I am also imune-ish to CS, it never bothered me that much compaired to others. Handy if I ever find myself in a riot anywhere!

Metal stamp set
Jock Auld replied to Jock Auld's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
Tony, I pulled a 36gram fine gold chain out the other day but for sheer stupidity the best was 20 x 50Euro notes that someone paid to skip! Naturally the wife taxed me on the latter! -
Chris, What is the base metal for these, I have them too in the reference books but many of the dealer/authors have since been caught with their pants down so to speak. When you look at the probable production dates, it was already forbidden to use metals that were priority for the armaments production. Is there one accepted variant, did they only come from this Canadian bloke? Is there any period documentation with an order for production etc? The 90s was when a lot of junk was intoduced by sources various as you well know. In fact mid 90s was when such dealers as Weitze, Hermanns, Neimann and like had cornered the market and enjoyed an unscathed reputation. People are much more aware these days and they do churn out some junk that is quite obvious and it makes me wonder how it is possible. We don't seem to question anything anymore as collectors. Still, it is a fine story and plausable but is it varfiable, did the Museum thief do any poridge, did it all hit the press, or only when the dealer bought it from him, which US dealer handled it, is that known?
