Regimental histories and references
ostprussenmann_new commented on IrishGunner's blog entry in Imperial German Artillery Regiments
Irish Gunner I find the German regimental histories an interesting item to own. I own two myself, but I have used both for family military research. I was lucky and have the associated maps and authors' letters in each mine also. I also have some of the other books that you have mentioned as well as some books published by the Imperial War Muesum. As I continue to do more research, I hope to find more down the road. -
Wow, that is a very interesting story. So in all actuality, someone could own something and not even know it. Thank you for sharing. I guess we will never know. Are there any German Aces who stuff is in a museum somewhere? I know at the Infantry Museum at FT Benning, GA, they have a hunting rifle given to Himmler and one of Goring's Reichmarshall Batons.

I have always like this document. It is amazing that it has survived. Where did you find it? I own one myself. You should try to find a picture of him, see if you can find a Regimental History (try looking on the google and or wikipedia; there is normally references to published histories on there), and find out the other awards that he earned. Obviously we know he at least has a EK II, EK I, and HOH3X. That is a start. ostprussenmann

I also have a S&L PLM, but I would like to own a Godet (far chance in hell). I started trying to get get all of the 2nd Class Medals of Baden, Prussia, and Wuertemberg, but I realized that it would be extremely hard to do that, so now, I try to collect only Baden Stuff; mostly Reserve Infantry Regiment 109 and Baden Leib Grenadier 109 Stuff including, but not limited to Medal Groupings, Award Documents, Uniform pieces, Soldbuch's Militarpaß, etc. It will be nice to pass everything off to my son when he gets older. Another thing that I am starting is finding Medal and Ribbon Bars with the Baden Zähringer Medal/ribbon on it, but again that's hard since most of the good stuff comes out of Europe. I would also like to owen the KFVM2X for Wuertemberg like you have. Again, extremely nice collection and good for you. I really like the Crown Order w/ Swords. Those are real hard to find. ostprussenmann

US Army Green (Service) Uniform
ostprussenmann_new replied to Doc's topic in United States of America
There are some options that you can do here. 1) Army Green Uniform with black stripes, khaki shirt, and black tie (remember the shade of green was different than the curent version, It was OG-107) I also believe the uniform was wool. 2) All Khaki uniform with Green Bus Driver hat (officer version with gold bank and gold eagle) 3) Khaki pants, khacki short sleeve shirt, with pin on rank on the collar HERE IS THE ABBREVIATED REGULATIONS FOR THE UNIFORMS: 1) ARMY GREEN UNIFORM: Universal uniform for all seasons, ranks, and non-field usage. Adopted 2 Sept 1954 and phased in during 1956-1961, becoming mandatory winter service uniform in 1960 and summer uniform in 1964. Color: Army Green Shade OG-44 or OG-344 for lightweight fabrics. Worn with khaki or tan shirts, black tie. Black shoes phased in starting in 1956. 2)ARMY KHAKI WOOL UNIFORM: Khaki lightweight wool tropical worsted or gabardine coat and trousers uniform for summer duty or semi-dress uniform for officers and warrant officers. Renamed Army Tan Uniform (shade 61) in 1959. Often worn by officers and NCOs with coat removed as a replacement for the issue Army Khaki Cotton Uniform. Worn with khaki or tan shirt. In 1948 the necktie changed from khaki to OD. 3) ARMY COTTON KHAKI UNIFORM: Summer garrison duty uniform, shirt and trousers. Originally long sleeves and full trousers only; from 1956-1962 the abbreviated warm-region version was adopted with shorts, knee socks, and short sleeve shirt. Summer use of the short sleeve shirt combined with long trousers continued until 31 Aug 1985. best regards, ostprussenmann -
If a German officer was from another state or Grand Duchy, typically how would an officer be awarded his awards? 1) Example: EKII, EKI, then State Award like a Bavarian Military Merit Medal or 2) Example: EKII, State Award of the second class or first class depending on rank, then EK1. I was just wondering, but I am thinking Example 2. If anyone has any insite please let me know. v/r ostprussenmann
