Justin, a very nice set of badges you have there, but hard to appreciate fully from this photo. I know you have a great 1st pattern Schwerin S-Boat badge. I think you should photograph and post the badges individually,if you can. It would be nice to see what the makers are of each piece, and basemetal, etc. Regards,Martin.

I have asked a fellow HSK collector to send me and image of the Kormoran document that he has to compare.I have also heard of conflicting stories that some Kormoran crewmen received their awards in captivity and other awards were sent to their families? I will try to get more information on this subject. i do beleive that the Commander of the Kormoran,Theodor Detmers was given his RK while in captivity, and there are photographs to prove this. Regards,Martin.

Besides the Kormoran document i posted earlier today i also picked up this set of documents from a crewman of the Hilfskreuzer Orion. The EK2 and HSK doc's are signed by the ships Commander,Kurt Weyher. It seems that after the Orion's return to Germany,Obermaschinenmaat.Storch joined the Minesweeper arm of the Kriegsmarine where he also received his EK1. Regards,Martin.

Here is a piece of paper you do not often see,and definately a first for me.This is a very rare Hilfskreuzer award document for a crewman from the HSK Kormoran, awarded while he was a POW in Australia. As we know the survivors of the Kormoran were captured and incarcerated in Australia after the Kormoran/HMAS Sydney engagement. I did hear that the Kormoran survivors, including the Commander,Theodor Detmers, received their awards while they were in captivity in Australia. I am very pleased to have this rare document. Regards,Martin.

The numbers and letters on the back of John's Destroyer badge are what i am more familiar with seeing on the reverse of KM awards. I have two similarly marked badges. One is an early tombak Schwerin Destroyer marked,"N1060/34T". The other is a Juncker AC badge named and nubered to "Alf Grzywotz N1733/39". Grzywotz served on the Atlantis. So in both cases,"N" is for Nordsea,34 and 39 are the years they joined the Kriegsmarine. They were enlisted 1060 and 1733 in those years. The "T" on the Destroyer badge denotes rank,i think. I would appreciate any additional information on these service numbers,if i am wrong. Regards,Martin.

Hi Justin, as i have commented elswhere,a good looking collection put together in a short amount of time. I was fortunate enough to pick up the very rare Meybauer Hilfskreuzer badge from the same gentleman you received the Schwerin S-Boot from,i think. Also, like yourself i have the support of a loving wife.Besides,i think she would rather have me at home in the evenings sipping my gin and sitting in front of a computer,"dabbling in history",than being down the road in the local "watering hole" with the lads,so to speak. Regards,Martin.

Martin W replied to Jan Arne S's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Hi Jan Arne, in my opinion this is a Meybauer badge, sadly,in poor condition.Despite the condition,i think the price was right Regards,Martin.
