Dear forumites: After a little break I am glad to introduce to you my brother's all lippische (Schaumburg) medal bar... It's quite rare to get a medal bar with all medal of a such small German states. On top of that it's a rarer non-combattant bars. I noticed that lately the prices have been increased also for those medals that earlier weren't considered so hot and desirable. ? Kreuz f?r treue Dienste am Nichtk?mpferband (OEK 1256/1) ? On Winkler website https://www.nordheideversand.de/ (22136 AUSWEISE, PAPIERE und gro?e ORDENSSPANGE des OLYMPIATEILNEHMERS (WINTERSPIELE) Oberleutnant der Gebirgsj?ger Hans Roschmann) there is a complete group of an officer of the Gebirsgj?ger with the most strange medal bar I have ever seen... WWII medals, Olympia Ehrenzeichen and a post-WWII American medal!!! I guess that this medal bar was just put together recently... nevertheless I'm posting the picture... the Finnish awards they look pretty good. Joe, The bar went for a quite steep price... over the double of its starting price. Bavarian medal and ribbon are very desirable in Germany. Ciao, Claudio

The top picture: isn't it from the caption the famous city (harbor) of Port Arthur... in a couple of years these places will see some action in the Nippo-Russian war of 1905!

As you can see Hansen used to "sign" his postcards on the back with his name and address... Rick, could you check his address??

Where the heck is "Swatow", "Swaton" or whatever? [attachmentid=10545] Transcribed by RR: "Soochow Creek I" and "Swatow Thal m. Kak...io v SW." These pencil ones are a bit light for me on first passes. Swatow is indeed the place name. And "Soochow Creek" is a place known to all 1930s United States Marine collectors!

For your reference I put also the dates on these pictures... quite impressive... these are more than 100 years old.

I think that, more than today, for people on the turn from 19th to 20th century, to be able to travel so far and see such different people and places must have been quite an adventure. We can't even imagine nowadays, since we have all the instruments to travel rapidly (planes, cars, trains,...), to be informed (TV, Internet, radio,...) and to communicate in English almost everywhere... I am currently living in India and can't even imagine how uncomfortable could have been back then for an European to live in such hot and humid country with no comforts at all...
