    2. Nice Bar and ribbon bar! Isn't it great to make the display better! Cheers Paul
    3. Thanks Greg! Nice to know i was not wrong with those ones! An L/56 eh! cool!. Have the L/56 and the J.F.S on the for sale stand...if ya want them at all...am keeping the M.K.6 for now...whats it worth?? Tom, its not a R.S CCC...its a baaad fake! but will post a pic soon as gotta rush off now... What do the Gents think of the HSF? and the R.S GAB?? Regards From New Zealand. Paul
    4. Hello Again Gents, I have picked up a book from the Library. Its called 'Dress Regulations for the Army 1900' It has a plate with picture of the tunic. It tells me this is for an Engineers Lieutenant. Also is missing the shoulder insignia, which is a treble twisted round-back woven cords lined with scarlet , rather elegant indeed! It also has the pics of the Tress for the collar, so will scan and have it for matching up the missing Tress. Will keep you posted on further developments.. Hopefully i can dig up the shoulder boards and the Tress, to complete the Tunic and restore it to its former glory.. Cheers Paul
    5. Hi Joe, Very nice! I can see why you picked it up...the variations of mounting are Interesting, along with the fact that someone probably wore this with pride! Cheers Paul
    6. Stephen, Thanks for taking the time to reply. I had already deduced that it was a fake and sent it back. Please feel free to use the images to help others to spot them. Kind regards Paul
    7. Nice Crosses David! And they do look good when the Silver is bright. Thanks Darrell for the interesting insight to the "Tarnishing' I have some early British Victorian medals that i want to tarnish slightly so i can get a 'Ghosting' of the letters to the naming, ( these have had the name erased!) and i wish to find out who the medal were awarded to. Cheers Gents Paul
    8. Excellent Photo! And some rarely seen awards on a bar! I think the reason the Long service eagles are at t different height...is because of the size..if they were at the same height, they would clash and overlap which would look even more odd... thanks for showing.. Cheers Paul
    9. Michael, Thankyou so much for taking the time to reply again. Much appreciated indeed! I am starting to fall in love with these early Victorian and Edward VII medals...so much history and they are so fine...not like the crap they dish out these days... So this man could be an Infantryman either from The Northumberland Fusiliers, Seaforths or Warwickshire regiments. My quest for Information on these regiments commences this day forth! I agree with your comments on the possibilities of the name erasing reasons, what strikes me as unusual with this barbaric practice...is why bother? the medals are not worth nearly as much as they would be if the naming was left there, and if they wanted the silver intrinsic value...these medals would have headed for the melting pot aeons ago... How can i accellerate the tarnishing? i have studied these medals with a magnifying glass under all types of light...and can only see traces of letters, parts and only the one part on some of the medals... I am really busting at the seams to find out about this man...who he was and where he fought etc.... As for the 'Stepfather' i think that he was not the original recipient...maybe his father or Grandfather...i will go and see the man i bought them off soon and ask him if he has found the other medal and asked his family about these medals, as i asked him too... wish me luck! Kind regards Paul So for the face value, would i be safe in saying 50 Quid per medal? i have no real idea of the values of these medals and my yearbook is from 1996...
    10. So , there is no possibility that these are a group to an Infantry soldier then? Gordons? are you referring to the Gordon Highlanders ?or a medal reference book? I would like to try this Ghosting...it sounds like thats what i need to do to find out where and why. As the more i scrutinise these medals i see ( or i think that i see!) some instance of naming. How would i go about this? an x-ray clinic perhaps?? These are a Beautiful set of medals and have been lovingly polished.... i really would love to get to the bottom of this mystery and suss out whom and where.... One thing i am certain of...well..i am led to believe by my close scrutiny.....is that the ribbons are hand sewn at the same length..so that all the medals line up if mounted on a small brass bar... or laid side by side... the bottoms of all the medals line up... so please help me with the value...i have Insurance to keep up to date. Thankyou. regards Paul
    11. Here is a shot of the Inside...with the original liner and Chinstrap. the liner has the big Norwegian issue stamp with the number 56 stamped there, i assume its the size.
    12. Hello Mr Herr Geezer, Here is a pic of the helmet, As i said, i thought it was an Kiwi veteran Afrika Korps bring back....due to the Khaki colour of the helmet... Surely its worth more thn $150USD?
    13. Hey, sorry i had forgotten this thread... I went and photo'ed the ribbon charts but was using a crap camera, and the images all came out very poor, see attached... Have to go back and seee him and ask to be able to do them again, with a better camera.. would love to have been able to scan them... Now i have been reminded, i will go and get on with it... Cheers Paul
    14. Hi Michael, With the combination of Battle bars on the QSM, what regiments are we possibly looking at...notwithstanding the other Sudan medals...and is there any possibility that there would be a soldier who would wear this combination of medals I would really love to know if this combination is possible...because if it is...then it stays together as a mans duplicate set fresh from the mint. You know...the more and more i look at these medals...i am convincing myself that they have been erased... and who-ever did the reasing...did a darn good job! Is there anyway i could possibly search and find any info on the troop movements in South Africa...to try and suss out what regiments were at these 5 battles... Cheers Paul
    15. Hello Gents, I too have picked up one of these Norwegian Re-issue's M35 It is painted in the Desert camo...Original paint...not painted since the re-issue... Complete and intact with Liner and Chin strap. marked SE64 and the number 436 stamped at the rear of the helmet. Initially because i picked it up here in NZ i thought it to be an Ex Afrika Korps helmet, ( the kiwi vets were prolific at bringing home souvineers,) But looking through the threads, i spotted this one...and recognised the decals... The decals on mine are on the top and are in pretty good nick for the age... What ones of these worth? Just for Insurance purposes...you see... Cheers Gents Paul
    16. Hello Gents, thankyou for taking the time to reply. This information is most helpful. I would go with the Wearers copies scenario...makes perfect sense. I am working with the seller to find out who they may have been awarded to. The seller seems to remember one other medal and assures me that once he finds it..he will let me know first. ( makes me wonder like hell...what this last one is... hopefully a Gallantry decoration ) Michael, you say Northumberland Fusiliers...Why? And yes i will keep them as a group... and in the correct order.. thanks again! Cheers Paul PS: will still be wanting an approximate worth please...
    17. Calling Prof. Ed Haynes.... Ed, i got these medals today. They are Genuine examples, that i am sure of... BUT they are ALL unamed...not erased, as the rims are perfect....and all from the same source...he had no other info...nothing! said they were his late stepfathers...and had no idea where he got them from.. All swivel on the suspender bar....and are silver...not cupro nickel The ribbons, while a bit Tatty, are Original. The Queens South africa has the following bars Belfast Diamond Hill Wittebergen Paardeberg Relief of Kimberly It is the original issue with the hand of Brittania pointing to the 'R' and has the 'Ghost' 1899-1900 The IGS is an Edward VII wi the clasp North West Frontier 1908 I am happy that they can be collection fillers... But i would love to know whats behind the fact that they are not named... Also what is their approximate worth as unamed? as i want to check that i did not pay too much for them... Thanks for your help! Cheers Paul
    18. Well....i did know that the Hungarian medal was on a rarely seen non com ribbon...but me thought there was something else.... Anyone else??
    19. Hi Kev, Well THAT IS a strange one... The 2 ribbon bars tell a different story... One says he had the War merit Cross...which goes with the HK BUT with the Volspflege medal..the War merit medal would be believable.. Well its only a matter of repacing the WMM with the correct one... A simple fix....to a nice wee bar..if the price is right...carefull here...do you really want it? thats what you must ask yourself before bidding silly money on it... Cheers Paul
    20. Ummm, well..its a Non com bar with a Wurttemberg combattants cross? annnnnD! its slightly vaulted?? OR is it special because you know who it belonged to?? Hmmm, a toughie....
    21. Hi Pat, I dont profess to be an expert on these...BUT I have to agree with Dan on this...they both look to me to be cast fakes...the pitting on the reverse's gives them away.... Sorry! Keep trawling this site ...you will learn alot and get very sharp eyed... Hope they did not cost you too much! or even better...hope you can send them back! Cheers Paul
    22. Thanks Bob! i just wanted to complete the set... Nice bars Jens! Ed, thats also a nice wee bar too! i wonder how the assembler deigned to make the Widows/Fathers cross's ribbon more prominent??? i would have thought that precedence would dictate the overlap sequence... Not that this is the first bar i have seen like this...I have even corrected one i have...because it looked way out of shape...( and it was easily done, with no damage in the process) I some cases i have seen this 'out of order ribbon overlapping in the case of a Hindenberg cross being added to the bar...most probably at the expense of a Kyffhauserbund medal...on one example it was plainly obvious as the metal bar attachment was of a completely different metal colour than the other 2 on the bar.. Peter, thanks for the info My respects to Captain Goddards family, may she rest in peace. Regards Paul
    23. Peter, thankyou so much for your reply. I am so glad there is someone out there who can perhaps help me with the Tress, or point me in the right direction. thankyou for the name...it will get me searching.. If have no luck..i will let you know...thanks for the offer Kind regards Paul New Zealand.
    24. Here it displays as the Guard in my 'War Corner" you can see a few other bits and pieces there... A display case with all my Imperial medalbars in... would you believe it..theres over 20 bars in there! The Hauptmann Tunic is an adjutant from the Norwegian campaign,...the other is a re-enacters tunic yet to be completed. ( at least this one fits me! the other one is sooo small! Bloody hell some German officers were blimmin midgets! not like us big strapping Kiwi buggers! )No wonder Rommel lost in africa!... too many bloody Kiwis there!.. kicked his Afrika Korps ass! true...in a well respected book by a British Brigadier, named Desmond Young( first published 1950)...he ( Rommel) was known as a Kiwi respecter...he thought that out of all the Empire troops, the Kiwi was the best! ...I kid you not! he had the greatest respect for the Kiwi troops in that he thought they fought well and were disciplined ...not like the Aussie ..he said they were great fighters..but could NOT be controlled into a decent fighting force! ...( his words not mine ok!..) hows that from Rommel! anyway if any of you can get hold of the book...its a sensational read!.. in a believable way...you know...with all the crap out there these days to read...this is pure heaven! and factual..( which is a nice refreshing change..) Cheers Paul
