    4. Medal for Construction of the Baikul-Amur Railroad The medal was established at 8. October 1976 and was awarded to active participants for no less than 3 years distinguished labor in the construction of the Baikul-Amur Railroad (BAM). Arround 70.000 pieces were awarded. The BAM is a railway line through Siberia from Ust-Kut near Krasnojarsk to Komsomolsk at the river Amur (green on the picture). It is nearly 4.000 km long. The BAM runs parallel to the Trans Sibiria railway line (red on the picture). First plans to develop the Baikal Amur - room/country/region were made at the beginning the 1920th years. The official decision to built a railway line was made 1937. In the year 1938 a first small part of the railway line was opened. During the second World War the project was stopped and some iron tracks were used to built railway line in the european part of the Soviet Union. For example to provide supply goods to Stalingrad. After the second World War the railway line through the Baikal Amur Region was enlarged. The day of "completion" is the 27 October 1984, but till 2001 a little distance was driven by car. The last break was closed in 2001. Originally the BAM project was slave work project of the STALIn time. After the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 the inhabitans of the region decrease from 1 million to 600.000 people. In 2001 presisent Putin rediscovered the project and said it is a strategic project for the future development of the region and Russia. It is planed to expand the BAM with a railway line to Yakutsk (see second map north at the river Lena) to develop the coal region around Enginskij and around Nerjungrinskij. The coal reserves should range for about 100 years. And in the north are lying 1/3 of the worlds known gold reserves. At the same time they build a motorway between the cities of Chita und Khabarovsk parallel to the BAM railway line.

    15. Badge for building the Moscow Metro: There are three badges dedicated for building the Moscow Metro. (see pictures) Short history of Moscow Metro: The first line of moscow metro was built 1935 The second line of moscow metro was built 1938 The third line of moscow metro was built 1944 You can see the dates and the line number on the badges. The badges were awarded to senior engineers, administrators and communist party bosses that supervised the construction, as well as NKVD officers that guarded the laborers. Sadly, as in these time common, moscow metro was built with slave labor. I think about 20.000 of each badge were awarded. Different badges exist. The 1935 badge with lower numbers has engraved serial numbers and different srew plates. Today moscow metro is 269,5 km long and there are 165 stations. Dayly 9 million passengers are transported. In 1931 the central comitee decide to biult a metro in moscow. Fist line 1935 work beginn : 15. Mai 1935 11,6 km long between Sokolniki and Park Kultury (red line) Second line 1938 8,5 km long between Ploschschad Swerdlowa and Sokol (green line) Third line 1944 7,1 km long between Kurskaja and Ismailowskij Park (blue line)

    18. Hello, got today the book from: Robert G. Poirer and Albert Z. Conner The Red Army Order of Battle in the Great Patriotric War 1985 Including data from 1919 to post war years. This book lists all the soviet military units of World War II. (short before and after). It includes the Armies, Corps, Divisions, Brigades and Regiments. Sadly, there are no bataillons listed. Sometimes key commanders are listed and the places where the unit was during war time. best regards Andreas
    19. Seems to be a very interesting jacket. Got a reply from another collector. He thinks it is a uniform worn by officials of the coal industrie. "The uniform is very close to the dress uniform worn by officials of the coal industry (not miners of course - but he senior commissars and department chiefs) in the late 40's and early 50's. They also used the bright blue edging - on a dark blue/black uniform."
