    1. Hi Leo, Your Grandfathers rank is Feldwebel (3 stars and lace on the front and bottom edges). Although his is not wearing his rank insignia the 'normal' way with the stars on the lace. Small silver bravery with a 2nd award = 2 x small silver Bronze bravery with two additional awards = 3 x bronze Karl troop cross 1912-1913 Mobilisation cross Regards, Ian
    2. I am after information on Oberst Arthur (Artur) DANNECKER. I know he was an Oberstleutnant in IR 62 in 1906, and was promoted to Oberst sometime prior to 1913. He is not listed in the 1913 kuk Schematismus, nor is he listed in the 1914 Ruhestands Schematimus. I read somewhere that he was present in Sarajevo at the time of Franz Ferdinand's assassination, but I am starting to doubt this. Thankyou, Ian
    3. Thanks. That makes sense especially considering he was born in Aug 1889, making him 50 at the start of WWII.
    4. Gentlemen, Thank you very much for the invaluable information. Arb, Your listing of his medals is of great assistance. huck216, I am unfamiliar with the term 'Major (E) in the Wehrbezirkskommando'. What is a Major (E)? Regards, Ian
    5. Hi, I am trying to find more information on the career of Major Anton Rzeszut (born 05 Aug 1889?). The photo was taken 20 Dec 1940 I know he served in the Austro-Hungarian Army(no idea in what capacity) then the Austrian Bundesheeres, before the amalgamation into the German Wehrmacht. Regards, Ian
    6. Andy, Thank you for the explanation. I do get confused by who wore what Edelweiß. I have had another look at my Leutnant under a magnifying glass and whilst it is far from clear, his buttons do have either II or III (definitely not a I), so this narrows it a bit more. I assume he is wearing an STM 1 klasse and a STM 2 klasse and not a STM 1 klasse and a bronze TM? Regards from Australia, Ian
    7. Andy, Outstanding information...thank you. I now have a much narrower base to search. Regards, Ian
    8. Attached is a picture postcard (taken in 1915) of a Landwehr Leutnant in dress uniform. His signature is bottom right, would some one be kind enough to have go at his name please. Regards, Ian
    9. Paul, I think we must share the same Dr or have his near relative. Regards, Ian
    10. Dave, Boy, don't I feel like a fool :-) although I still have trouble deciphering 'weltkrieg' out of the scrawl Thank you.
    11. I am hoping that some one can and will make sense out of the scrawl for me please?
    12. Thank you for the additional information.
    13. I conducted a page by page search of my 1918 Rangliste and I believe that the mystery man is: Armand von VORNER, Infanterieregiment Nr. 2. Promoted to Oberstleutnant 01 January 1917.
    14. Elmar, Thank you. That was the name I thought as well. I have not been able to find an Oberstleutnant Armand in any of my Rangliste, so now I will search for a a first name of Armand amongst the Heer and Landwehr.
Armee. Stand: 31 Dec 1918. 1992
    16. Does anyone happen to have a copy of Georg Zivkovic's self published work: Alt-Österreichs Heerführer. Stellenbesetzung in Heer, Landwehr und Kriegsmarine 1541 bis 1918, and would be prepared to copy some pages for me? I am missing 4 pages (124, 423, 442 and 443). Thank you and regards, Ian
    17. Good evening all, I thought I had this Oberstleutnant identified, or at least that I was well on my way to ID'ing him, but alas I was wrong. He is wearing a possible/probable Leopold Order-Ritter, probably a silver and a bronze Signum Laudis, one other medal on a bravery ribbon and a KTK. I am hoping that someone on this forum will be able to decipher the name for me. I was going to add my thoughts on his name, but I may have muddied the waters. Cheers,Ian
    18. Hi, Can anyone put a name to this guy for me please. Regards, Ian
    19. I have identified the Oberst whose signature I could not decipher. Generalmajor (1 Feb 1918) Maximilian Rudolf Mändl Edler von Bughardt
    20. Hi Bernhard, Thank you for the response and I understand. Regards, Ian
    21. Hi Bernard, Thank you very much for the translation. Can you make out the first letter of the signature, I might be able to trace him from that. Regards, Ian
    22. Hi I recently acquired a photo card of an Oberst and he had written a message on the reverse. Other than it has something to do with k.k. Landsturm Regt no 11 I have no idea. There is a reference to Oberst Engelbert Zuzzi, but the photo of the Oberst is not Zuzzi. I would apprecaite it very much if some one could tell me what is written please. Regards, Ian
    23. I have seen this badge listed as being Polish, but other than that I can not say.
