Hello Colin, With regards to that SA Meissen disc...there is no gold paint on it...your's is the first example I've seen with gold paint...I've seen two or three identical disc's to the one I have, all without paint.... I still haven't worked out if it is technically a 'tinnie' as such...I did note that Tieste does feature similar item's in his books (but not my two examples), ....the fact it bears the SA emblem made it a 'must have' item.... ...always interested in badges with the SA runic roundel :-) ...as for the Freiburg badge...yes, a nice piece! ...here's another SA Meissen disc... "Standarte 416 Vereidigung 1934"

...and we're off again! ...another SA tinnie (surprise, surprise!).... ...it shows a bit of wear to the front side, but this all adds to its character... ...a nice combination of shield design with a SA dagger handle protruding from the top... Hi.... I would have replied sooner...but I was distracted by a 17 month old bundle of snot and poo ....needless to say we love him anyway! ...moving swiftly onwards... ....a great selection of very well presented tinnies that you have posted...even though there's no SA (at the moment :-) ...I do like the NSDAP 'Deutschland ist Erwacht!' tinnie.... ...I usually stick with SA myself...simply from a cost point of view..there's far too much out there! ...I've ended up ignoring very fine looking tinnies because they weren't SA.... ...just aquired this item...a Meissen made disc...not shown in Tieste....but here's the conundrum...there are plenty of porcellan Meissen disc's shown in the Tieste books, most featuring a metal three-pronged clasp on the reverse of the disc, not actually fixed onto the disc...the ends of the prongs are bent around the rim of the disc... ...my disc is approx 50mm in diameter...but I don't know for sure if it ever had a clasp attached...or was it just handed out as a table medal type of thing.....??? ...either way, it bears the SA emblem which makes it an ideal item in my mind ! ..and once again...another SA tinnie ...note use of the 'rearing stallion' to signify the Westfalen coat-of-arms...with a barely visible 'hakenkreuz' behind the stallion... ...one thing I would like to try and find out is......I've read the stories of how and when the artwork for the 'SS' runes were finalised...but what is the background story for the designing of the SA emblem???... ..."Sportkampftage der SA-Gruppe Westfalen 1937 Dortmund"...

...it would appear that this SA Gruppe favoured the use of porcelain... ...now we have a 1939 porcelain tinnie...with fantastic detail....a great combination of a mini-SA award emblem and the SA roundel..... ..unlike the previous two porcelain tinnie's, there is no maker's mark anywhere on this 1939 version... "SA Gruppe Bayer-Ostmark Sport u. Wehrwettk?mpfe 1939"

...and for some reason...the same SA Gruppe saw fit to make up two tinnie's for the same year... ...another porcelain 'tinnie'... ...a great combination of a soaring eagle carrying aloft a hakenkreuz device....above the endless marching columns of SA men... ...the maker's mark is again evident ('HF') just to the right of the hakenkreuz.... ...another spectacular badge...if I do so say myself! "SA Gruppe Bay-Ostmark 1937" (note that the number '7' is very faint)

...time for another SA tinnie... ...but not a 'tinnie'...instead it's made with porcelain...a fantastic material to work into a badge... ...the badge is for the SA Gruppe based in Bay-Ostmark....I wonder if the use of porcelain is part of the local industry ? ...there is a maker's mark (signature?) etched into the front of the badge, just below a SA mann's thigh....the letter's 'HF'.... ...the detail on the Standarte and the SA mann is quite wonderful....the small 'hakenkreuz' on the armband... ...I'm very pleased with this badge! "Sport u. Wehrwett-k?mpfe SA Gruppe Bay-Ostmark 1937"

Hi Benten, ...another plastic SA 'tinnie' for you...a fairly easy to find badge... ...the detail on this badge is as sharp as the day it was made...perfect condition....I really like the strong imagery of the SA emblem, oak leaf, and hand holding a sword....all entwined together... "SA. Gruppen-Sport-Wettk?mpfe 1938, Gruppe Kurpfalz"

Hi, There is an English & German introduction in the books... The description of the badge is in German, i.e, what is written on the badge...and the material of the badge...but at the beginning of the book it explains in English what all the words mean....so it's easy to understand... There is also a price (in Euro's) next to every badge...that helps you to know if a dealer is over-charging....but bear in mind...those prices are 2006 listed....so expect a slight rise....but then...if the badge is in tip top condition and you really want it....then you will have to decide if you will pay the inflated price...the prices are 'approx'....they are only guidelines...no dealer is obliged to use the same prices... The books are very easy to use and understand....highly recommended ! Regards.

Those four books you speak of are years out of date....and a lot of the images are not very clear....but......they were the first to cover 'tinnie's in great detail... Overall, the four books probably feature approx 1600 examples of tinnies....the only plus side is that they have a few images not shown in the next two books that I will advise you really should buy... "Tagungs- und Veranstaltungsabzeichen 1930 - 1945" by Reinhard Tieste ...the books are A4 sized, hardback, and feature 12,500 tinnies... ...if you do buy them, make sure you buy the most recent edition (2006) 5th Auflage... ...it will cost 80 Euros for both books...well worth it ! ...here's a link to the Reinhard Tieste website. Hi Benten... I don't believe that this tinnie is part of a series...at least...not a series of zodiac tinnies...maybe the 'archer' is purely symbolic...'shooting for the stars'...that sort of thing ? In the Tieste book, there are a few other RLB tinnies, of different styles and shapes.....but which all feature the same figure, The Archer.... I don't know anything about the RLB to be able to explain the significance...maybe Nick knows??? As for the Magdeburg statue...I will also ask around...I'm interested to find out about it ! ...and another round SA tinnie...again for the same SA-Gruppe as above.... ...this tinnie is for the year previous...1936... ...I've seen this tinnie in books, but you can't really appreciate how big it is until you place it next to other tinnies...this measures at 50mm across.... ...notice the SA monument that is used...it is identical to the monument found on the plastic 1939 tinnie for the same SA-Gruppe (I posted an example on the previous page)... ...I'm not actually sure if it is a 3rd Reich monument or an earlier war memorial stone....maybe it still exists today? ...it would be nice to see a picture of the actual memorial... Hi Benten, Yes, I know which tinnie you mean....as I said, I only picked this up because it looked so good....but I usually stick with SA tinnie's... ...for example... ...a nice round (37mm dia) SA tinnie....with a very prominent SA emblem in the centre...lying on a bed of oak leaves... "Tag der SA-Gruppe Mitte, Magdeburg, 25.-27.6.1937"
