    1. Try Maplin. I got mine there. It was described as a tool to check out fake currency. I guess other UK shops will have them also.
    2. Whilst on the subject of NSDAP ribbons, seems that these guys are finding plenty. Maybe they have a time machine... http://www.regimentals.co.uk/shop/shop.php (check out the few pages before and/or after this one also)
    3. yes I would agree, that reverse shot looks awful
    4. Found it! It is on pages 72 and 73 of Angolia's "For Fuhrer and Fatherland" ( Military awards). It is shown with a ribbon but the medal itself is made of a lighter coloured metal than the one shown above (trial strikes in iron according to this book). No mention of the source is given there.
    5. and finally, a US military one (I also have a British military one but it is boxed up in the garage..). Feel free to post your WW2 masks and please contact me if you have any you want to get rid of
    6. A German civilian mask (looking for the cardboard box this came in...)
    7. A German military mask with accessories such as the gas cape in its bag (it stinks says my wife!)
    8. A British child's respirator nicknamed "mickey mouse"....
    9. Three British civilian masks in their box of issue and carry case.
    10. A baby gas mask handed out to civilians in the Uk during the 2nd WW (sorry I have no baby at hand to demonstrate the use of this!)
    11. I collect medals but I have a side interest in gas masks. Not a large collection but I like these strange items. All these are from the 2nd WW time.
    12. Thank you Gordon. I must say that these are impressive awards and very well made, like a piece of jewellery. The weight of the piece is also impressive.
    13. don't say that, they'll believe you!!
    14. Got this today. My first one so be gentle with me....
    15. Whilst recently on an Air France flight, I watched the film "Joyeux Noel" which covers this event. Not a very exciting film but rather moving in places and worth watching I guess, if only to compare to the book you are reading. By the way, the film was in French with English subtitles.
