Try Maplin. I got mine there. It was described as a tool to check out fake currency. I guess other UK shops will have them also.

yes I would agree, that reverse shot looks awful -
Found it! It is on pages 72 and 73 of Angolia's "For Fuhrer and Fatherland" ( Military awards). It is shown with a ribbon but the medal itself is made of a lighter coloured metal than the one shown above (trial strikes in iron according to this book). No mention of the source is given there.

Got this today. My first one so be gentle with me....

Whilst recently on an Air France flight, I watched the film "Joyeux Noel" which covers this event. Not a very exciting film but rather moving in places and worth watching I guess, if only to compare to the book you are reading. By the way, the film was in French with English subtitles.
