    14. Hi, I believe that a lot of foreign awards are based on "Standard" patterns and adjusted to reflect that countries social, religious or political leanings, you will find similarities in many orders from different countries which bear a striking resemblance to each other, this is normally done by medal manufacturers, sort of "one size fits all" scenario. Spink and Son of London I believe have a similar approach, and they have produced awards for many countries, not just British ones. Of course there are the despots who spend more time designing gongs and uniforms more than running the country but they tend to be short lived. Idi Amin, was a soldier in the British army and became defacto dictator of Uganda, his uniform and medals were based on British patterns, he even designed his own "Victoria Cross" but had I believe his own face on the obverse! can't confirm who made it see more here regards
    15. Hi Bernhard, thanks for your observations, it does look medieval on appearance but could it be "Modern" and drawing on past Glories, something the NS regime was fond of, (Teutonic Knights etc), the Iron Cross pedestal could be a later addition, Don't know but interesting place. regards Alex K
    16. Hi all, I came across this image a while back and it intrigues me, does anyone know what it is, where it was or is, the GI seems somewhat perplexed also! I think its from Getty images regards Alex K

    18. Hi guys, thanks for the additional info, old film peculiarities are reasonably familiar with turning colours the same shade of grey, and I thought about that, the second ribbon COULD be plain red, the ribbon to the officers cross whilst grey does show faint darker stripes, correct for the yellow/black ribbon, interesting cunundrum regards Alex
    19. Hi Lambert, the first one, you could be right, the problem I have that neither ribbon matches those posted on my image, they look like solid colours regards Alex

    22. Hi Tony, I actually quite like it, it has a nice "Period" look to it, as far as the coat goes, there's no accounting for taste, but I suppose in wartime you have to cheer youselves up somehow! I do Generals with lots of "Bling" as it becomes more of a technical challenge more me to achieve, and gives me lots of practice, (I do have lots of others without so much fireworks on their chests) regards Alex K
    23. Hi Tony, don't despair, it's really not that difficult, it DOES require practice and with some a degree of patience, particularly if they are wearing lots of "Jewellery" regards Alex K
    24. Paul Von Hindenburg and chair A not often seen photo of Hitler and his kepi. I understand he hated this particular photo so much as he felt it made him look stupid so he had it banned. I leave it to viewers to decide if his fears were justified! regards Alex K
