Hi Chris, it's like a lot of these things you need to have it hand to evaluate and appreciate. Whilst not part of this thread, I will hopefully post closer images, if I can as I believe that one or some manufacturers actually used this configuration in their manufacture, so they may not all be repairs. regards Bingo!, I've knew I had it somewhere, found a download from the dealers web site, looks the same to me but different patination that's why I saved it. not very good image but still! Another one (not mine, repair or original? can't make out the makers name) -

Hi Chris, the one I posted I am certain is not a repair, but as made, close examination shows the same level of manufacture as the original, the pin is stamped 800 as is the medal just below the clasp, not visible in the photo, there actually is no sign of wear so no repair, it also comes with it's original maroon case which is lined internally with maroon velvet etc. I have seen two further examples of exactly this configuration, which I believe to be by the same manufacturer whoever they were, one on a dealers web site and the second (and I'm fairly sure that it was on GMIC), the only difference is that the GMIC one had holes drilled thru all eight corners. I will try to take a higher res scan of the configuration regards -

Thanks for the info regards Alex -
Here's a quirky one, I have him on file as a Ridi Wolfmuller, from what I've read on another forum, he was an imposter, found any gong he could and then posed (Bit like the US Stolen Valor Act), but way back then, he certainly doesn't lack anything except the VC. Anyone know anything about him. The original B/W image is totally authentic. Edit just found this, I obviouslydownloaded from the same site where I got the photo, mean anything to anyone?

Well there we are gentlemen, it fooled me!, just makes me more determined to get mine right as I know I'll get pulled up regards

I've mentioned earlier in this thread that it is open to all. Two images which are not mine but found on the internet. As I do this normally, I'm quite quick to spot a colourisation from a hundred metres, this first one got me. After careful examination, it is a colourisation, but an amazingly good one, I wish I knew who did it. The second is an obvious colourisation (I have the original B/W image), Like I said earlier there is some real talent out there. regards Alex

EK 1914 Does this look domed to you?

Geometrically, it is slightly vaulted, if that's what you mean -
Victoria Cross replica
Alex K replied to kjf101's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
In the end, it depends on what you want. A COPY by the original manufacturer, or a copy by other sources. If it's for display purposes only, then why spend 400GBP when you can spend 20GBP, a copy made by the original manufacturer has no greater intrinsic value then one made anywhere else, it is still a copy and will be treated as such, fancy papework saying it is an authentic "Copy" doesn't really work in my book, you want the real thing, sell your house take out a great mortgage regards -
Hi Chris, As you may know I started this thread a few moons ago, It WAS a moment of boredom, Since then it seems to have developed it's own momentum. The new name may well reflect a slightly more serious approach to bringing life back to old and often ignored images, people or events.

Thank you very much I'm genuinely humbled. No my software does not read anything, or if it does it doesn't tell me! I rely on my own intuition, I have to take time to study the various shades of grey, and actually may spend 10-20 minutes just staring at the B/W image, (Very sad and my kids think I've gone into a trance or just drunk!!) by the time I've come out of my trance, 90% of the image is already clearly colourised in my head, then with some research, I eventually (Hopefully) come up with the right answer!! regards Alex

A few more, Helmut von Pannwitz who became the supreme Attaman of the XV Kosaken-Kavallerie-Korps my colourisation is based on a very small but authentic photo shown. The second unknown cossack officer dressed in traditional cossack uniform, (Kuban Cossacks? inset), the third totally unrelated, Paul Von Hindenburg, an early photo, It took quite a while to sort out the bling he was wearing but hopefully it's correct. regards Alex K Since doing Von Hindenburg, I spotted the thread started by Chris Boonzaier's visit to the Bundeswher museum. His posting of a generals parade tunic made me re-visit my original colourisation, it has been re-posted with small changes to more acurately reflect reality

Hi Chris, are those their actual award documents?, if so I'm glad I could help in putting them both together. regards

Hi all, I thought I would call on the experts for an answer, attached a nice image of Hindenberg. What style of unifrom is he wearing and what colour would it be?, presumably it's not Feldgrau, but possibly dark blue?, secondly the sach band is obviously from one of his many decorations, which one? any help would be appreciated regards Alex

My opinion is that its not a repaired catch but part of the original manufacture. This is a totally authentic piece in my collection for many years, the quality is outstanding and comes as it was made. I wish I knew who made it. It appears sometimes and I've seen similar before regards Alex -

I found these several years ago, i think a different site, there were hundreds. They are not actually re-colourisations but original colour photos using a set of three different colour plates when overlaid gave real colour, they are however trule amazing. They were available as a tiff file also, takes up great lot of memory but the close up quality is amazing two more Is that Basil Fawlty aka John Cleese!? -
Hi I think it's a good reference site for the Uniform buffs, as many are from the actual big-wigs that wore them. For me to see the actual uniform gives me the level of accuracy I like when colourising regards
