    1. If you preview the image before you scan it you can normally adjust the size of the area being scanned down to just the rough area of the item you want in detail, then as Don says at 1200dpi you will get great detail in the small selected area. Problems can arise when you attempt to scan the whole photo at 1200dpi and the file can be huge, though I always do that with any photo's I get and have'nt had any probs myself. C
    2. I always remember the first time I flicked thru Andrew Mollo's GERMAN UNIFORMS OF WW2 and saw the sign on the wall of the 5th comp. 5th Tank Regiment barracks....what a display item that would be! (the bottom photo on page 23). Looks like the wreath and skull 'n' crossbones are metal and the rest wonderfully painted. Never found it for sale though LOL. C
    3. What are the 13 tinnies you are after? Your SA collection is great, I love far too many of the other designs to specialize in just one theme though.. but I suppose it gives a proper focus to concentrate on one theme, mine are all over the place (as is proven in the list above ). C
    4. For fun, and to help us get to know each other's taste in tinnies (ok we already know Claymore's 1st love )... your top 10 desires from Tieste's 1st volume "A" listing. I only have the 4th edition, but I assume he has kept the same numbering, so I might miss out on some badges (wants) from the 5th edition, but most of us will get a grasp of what's what. Could I suggest the 10 be kept in order as in the book, to save readers having to jump back and forth. I hope that who knows, we can help each other find an "always wanted", or at least post a pic of one. looking forward to reading some replies. So to my TOP TEN "A"s. C 1. Aachen 34-01. I have a lot of HJ tinnies, but not this one, love the design, and looks like a big badge. 2.Achim 35-01. Nice design, just like the eagles atop badges like this. 3.Aibling,Bad 33-01. Eagle as above, looks like a great badge, would love to see a good pic of one. 4.Aichach 34-01. Right next door to the one above in Vol4, another HJ that looks the business, love tinnies with some enamel like this one. 5.Annaberg 33-02. Well again another HJ I don't have and would love to obtain, just a great design. 6.Arbeitsgau 34-01. Looks like it would be a great display item.. love big badges. 7.Arnsberg 35-01. Love badges featuring Erwache standards, don't have it..want it. 8.Aue 33-02. Great looking design, would love to see one in hand. 9.Aue 33-03. Speaks for it's self.. I want it! 10.Aue 38-01. Again, looks like it would be a great badge in the hand. Well that's mine, hope to see others. For age's one of my biggest wants of all Alfeld 37-01, the huge leather Deer one.. got it last year, before I moved down under.. did not disappoint. C
    5. My initial thinking on the hip insignia was NS Reichsbund f?r Leibes?bungen cloth badge. Without a decent close up though it's hard to say. C Edit to say the person in the picture is a BDM.
    6. Kev, if poss, can you post a close up of the hip insignia, also the other hat seems to have something like an eagle on it? I wonder if anyone has any more pics of the diamond on male left sleeves? C
    7. It IS a silly topic, I've said already it's laughable. I did not post the pics belonging to Robert Noss to embarass Bob, but to (more important IMO) show the cloth version of the DJ sports badge being worn.. you really don't see it very often, and also the use of it on the Leaders arm, as I said was the most interesting thing of those pics (for me). The debate over the Diamond however continued, and I did (no argument about it) put it to bed with the use of original period proof as requested in the printed armband saga. Spreading of wrong information should not be tolerated, not in a rude way I agree, but it should be nipped in the bud.. we have already seen here a perfectly good (IMO) 3rd Reich item (printed armband) being assumed all fake. Fakes do exist, like other printed material, but so do good ones IMO. I should point out that I collect Japanese militaria too and Bob needs no introduction to me in that field that's for sure, the service he has given to the Japanese sword collecting community is well known, and I could not respect him anymore if I tried, I'm aware of his collection of 3rd Reich political items as well, and sure would like to share in that collection and equally important his experience of being around the hobby so long, just as everyone else. . C
    8. I don't like to pussyfoot around either, I find though that if you use the correct period proof that you are correct and the other option wrong you can shoot from the hip real good and it's pretty hard to be chastised. XEN, I know you know that I know you know what a HJ sports shirt badge looks like and I know that you know that I know that you know you have asked Bob for a period photo that does'nt exist, because there is no other badge. C
    9. Why not? swimming is a sport, you also spot it on sports shorts. Sports abzeichen = sports badge/insignia. I admit there is a possibility that the HJ overlords official 1933 book might be mistaken and yes DOH... even the idiots went and made the same mistake again in 1934. My mistake, like XEN then I will await the pic of the correct sport shirt insignia, that I might learn. C
    10. And finally something that might have been worth talking about.. waterproof jacket left sleeve, ignore the insignia at the bottom. C.
    11. Trampped along this weary road often enough to know what comes next.. "prove it". So here you are. Quick edit to point out first pic from 1933 edition, bottom one from 1934 edition, arm of waterproof top from 1934 edition. C
    12. Why are we talking about wether or not these sports badges are same on HJ shirts and BDM jackets? There is no need, the discussion is laughable. Page 2 of RJF's Uniformen der H.J. 1933 edition states very clearly "Sport=Abzeichen H.J.und Armel=Abzeich. B.D.M. und Jungmadel" it pictures the insignia and it's dimentions very clearly. Page 15 of the same publication but 1934 edition shows illustrations of both Male and Female wearing them and showing/naming it the same badge, but includes more importantly that the insignia is also used on the left arm of the male waterproof jacket, which is what I think the officer in Roberts photo might be wearing. It is being contradicted for the most basic of things that stopped me from commenting on other peoples items a couple of years back, I start again and see that sadly nothings changed.. I just can't be bothered with it. C
    13. Thanks for sharing that XEN, Here's a photo from an album I have, it has a DJ notice board in the back ground. C
    14. The most interesting photo (for me anyway) in regard HJ sports shirt Raute. Same badge???? I am looking forward to checking this out. Please view Roberts photos again (and again, and again) as the quality is better than I have presented. Photo property of Robert Noss, kindly shared in his own thread below this one. C
    15. .. of note please notice the DJ sports badge cloth version on the shirt of the boy throwing the knife. Photo the property of Robert Noss who kindly shared it a few threads below this one. C
    16. Yes, looking at the case hinge I can see it's indeed the same case in both photo's ... cheeky Great badge. C
    17. You're more than welcome Joe, nice to hear from you again... I see you still appreciate your tinnies too
    18. Second skull, of which there were 2 of in the group. Any help as always much appreciated. C
    19. I have been meaning to ask about these 2 pins for ages and never got round to getting them out. I obtained them as part of a group of political pins and tinnies, most of which were quite rare ones. First up C
    20. The only time I have changed a ribbon is to either put a new piece on a medal obtained with none or to replace a new replaced ribbon with an original old one if I can get one.. yes some people do sell their old ribbons when they personally like to see new ribbons. I prefer old ribbon for the same reason I like salty insignia over mint unissued, and has nothing to do with pleasing the spirit world. C
    21. I know people with nice cars from the 50's.. they are beat up and rusty. I know people with nice cars from the 50's.. they are pristine, restored and repainted. IMO the second group care, respect and love their cars far more than the first group. Just my opinion on restoration. Medals were not originally meant for collectors... neither I believe were cars. Each to their own.. BTW Bifter my Grandmother used to give me a penny for polishing my Grandfathers war medals, I'm sure your grandfather is as proud looking down on you as mine was of me. C
    22. I got mine from Detlev Niemann years ago. They sit really well next to the Meschede badge you also have, very similar design, I think the Okt. Meschede one was based on the Okt. Braunschweig badge almost exactly 2 years later. Cheers Claymore C.
