Kriegsmarine Sextants
reinoudmilitary replied to John R's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
John is correct. The difference between the two types is the amount of material used. Later in the war they had less internal webbing (or " brackets") because there was simlply less material available. I have a first type and a second type, both completely from aluminium. I will post some pictures later on. -

Kriegsmarine New U-Boat Book.
reinoudmilitary replied to Gordon Williamson's topic in Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Finally got my copy as well; nr 154 a signed copy! A very nice book about uboat stuff with the greatest pictures! -
The cap has a nice "salty" look. The cockade is heavily damaged. The gold piping joins in the side! so that's a good thing, as I was told by Gordon and Michel (see other topic: uboat officer's sidecap, in GMIC) The eagle insignia is gold bullion. Very interesting is the unofficial capinsignia on the side, the crew of U763 had a white shield with a black chross, the swords I don't know. The swords are from metal and the picture below you can see how this is pinned on the cap. The White shield is made of the "plastic" kind material where original nameplates on U-boats and kriegsmarine equipment etc. where made from! It's sewned on and on stiching is loose so I can see the back which has the letters "Ku" (see picture) I hope I can get some opinion's on this cap!

Kriegsmarine Navy Cap Eagle
reinoudmilitary replied to Avitas's topic in Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
To me it looks like a "one piece insignia" for a donald duck cap which is broken in two (eagle and cocade where attached) and the "needle" is also missing. -
Hi Joe, If you reply on a message you can attach a picture, use "browse" at File Attachments to look for the picture on your computer. You have to shrink the picture to a small size about 60 kB. One at the time. I use the program "paint" to shrink my pictures but I have the version from the Netherlands so it's hard to explain how to do that. Maybe somebody else can help. Good luck, Floris
