Hi Kev, This was actually to be a Luftwaffe award, not one of the Kriegsmarine. It was instituted on November 27, 1944 to be awarded to Luftwaffe Air/Sea Rescue crews, supply ships, and other misc. surface ships that performed air related tasks. ERIC

Hi Pat, First off, the BSW firm was not a known maker of Observer Badges. No original Observer has ever surfaced with the known and accepted characteristics of the BSW firm. Secondly, there was no manufacturer, pre, post, or wartime with the initials "SBW" It was BSW and only BSW. The BSW stands for BRUDER SCHNEIDER WEIN . If you will, please add these "SBW" badges to the appropriate "FAKE....."sections listed at the top of the this Forum - it may help others in the long run. ERIC

Agreed! I've seen a couple prelim documents awarded for this badge I would accept as original, but no actual badge examples have ever surfaced that have been accepted by the collecting community as original. ERIC
