    1. Stuart, What amazes me is the CONDITION of these helmets.... fantastic! How about more of the lancers and the Gentleman at Arms ! Cheers Mark
    2. Stuart, I thought that was Gentleman at Arms...... NICE... I almost picked up a complete uniform for one last year... named to a Brigadier General who was awarded the VC in WW1..... I should have.. but the condition of the set was not as nice as I like..... As far as the pics... please post away..... Just blame me if anyone complains Cheers Mark
    3. Stuart Really great.. keep them coming..... Is that a Gentleman at Arms next to the 1834 Pattern 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons ? I also really like the lancer's helmets....... I like German Spikes.. but I always thought that the lancer's helmets really gave the spikes a run for thier money in appearance... makes me green with envy over my little collection ! Please keep them coming ! Cheers Mark
    4. Stuart Lets see some closeups... if you can... Great collection !! Cheers Mark
    5. Hey Chris, World Medals also did my Ernst Ist bar... and right afterwards stoped doing the German mounts...... but he did a fantastic job.... Cheers Mark
    6. Damn! I was hoping that you guys would have problems with it... so that I could just write it off..... Now I have a real dilemma ! i.e. sell the house, divorce the wife......... and buy it ..... or........ let it go..... SPM..... I'm certain that he had hundreds.. not only did he have at least one for every regiment in the Imperial military.... He also have them for every other country in Europe... I have pics of him in Turkish, British, Swiss, Russian etc.... and the list goes on and on.... Question is... how many are on the open market ??? This one would actually be the easiest to 'deck out' for display.. as he didn't wear a ribbon bar and just a couple of stars... Cheers Mark
    7. Hello boys, In one of the current German auctions is a supposed tunic of Wilhelm II (field grey).... I had them forward larger pics to me and here is a scan of the ribbons inthe button hole...... It appears to be a one piece ribbon... but they jsut don't 'look right' to me for Willie.... and for 30k..... things need to be perfect....... Can you guys id'd them or confirm what they are ? Cheers Mark
    8. Hello All, A recent pick-up.... turns out to be even better as thought as it is also named..... It's hard to make out but I think it's A. v. Leumlclt ... though I can't be for sure..... The guard spike could only belong to a few regiments..... Garde Pioneer, Eisenbahn reg 1,2,3 or 4, Kraftfahrer, Garde Fusilier or 5th Garde reg of foot (with a spike.. all would apply.. with the black bush it would narrow down the list a little). I'm being guarded and assuming that the bush may not be original so it could be any of these. I would estimate the era of the spike to be around the 1900's... due to the construction and the star itself. Here is a pic of the spike....
    9. Hello boys, Since there has been no reply...... perhaps this is posted in the wrong section.... can someone let me know which section the question should be posted too? Cheers Mark
    10. General Adjutant for Wilhelm I Ok guys?. This is probably in the wrong place.. but here is a couple of questions?.. 1)Did Field Marshals ever hold the post of Gen Adj to the Kaiser (Wilhelm I) ? 2)If you were a lower rank general and Adj to the Kaiser (Wilhelm I)?. And then later on was promoted to Field Marshall AFTER Wilhelm I died, would you / could you still wear his cipher on your shoulder board. I know with Waldersee? he was Adj to all three Kaisers??.. and when he was promoted to FM he would have worn Wilhelm II cipher. Just a couple of puzzling questions ?.. any thoughts and/or names would be appreciated. Cheers Mark
    11. He is doing that with all his auctions... look at the crown order... it's advertised as a 2nd class (commander) and the first picture is indeed a commanders cross... but when you scroll all the way to the bottom. you see it's a 3rd class...... and I'm surprised that his rating is still a 99% Cheers Mark
    12. Hey WC They were all great points And from pictures and other bars I have seen..... there seems to be a lot of differences... especially AFTER 1918 as I think they could pretty much get away with anything. I am surprised though that no one has ID'd the badge yet.... I would have figured that one of the 'twins' would have chimed in by now.... Cheers Mark
    13. Hey WC, Please keep in mind that the orders in post #9 are a 'representation' of his and NOT his actual awards (or original bar) as those were long since lost and my friend had this bar replicated from an earlier picture that he had of Schlee (hence no Hindenburg medal on the bar). The St Michael is on the bar in #9 and in the picture in #8.. just hard to see. Cheers Mark
    14. Hey Brian, To be honest.... I'm not sure.... In this earlier thread http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=5944&hl=schlee there are a few more pictures of him... and he appears to be 'decked out' in all of them. For this specific picture... I would think that it was a 'get dressed up and take a picture'. Dan.... I missed one of your commetns... yes.. I believe that it's the rare award of the "Cresent Lincoln Penny" Cheers Mark
    15. Hey Mark, No.. I don't think so. If you look closely at the medal bar you can see the Hindeberg cross.. which means it's post 1934. He retired either right after WW1 or the early 20's so perhaps this is just a portrait shot. Oh.. and unfortunatly.. this is NOT my great grandfather.. but rather a friend of mine. Cheers Mark
    16. Hey Dan, Actually... your right .. I put the wrong thing.. it is his Knights badge of the Military Merit order that he is wearing as a commanders badge. Apparently there are other pictures of im wearing this award twice as well. His awards (actually a representation of his awards) were posted earlier and here is a pic.
    17. Hey Dan, Yep.. he was a Wuerttenburger..... and nope.. not a Max Joey... this is what is funny about the picture.. that is his Knights badge for the Wuert. order of the Crown.. that he is wearing as a commanders badge.... I guess.. when your a Gen... and in 1942.. no one cares Cheers Mark
    18. Hey Big D Nice to hear from you Nope.. that's the best pic I have.. and when i blow it up it get's grainy... Oh.. also.. on that other thing we discussed a couple of weeks ago....... no need..... we made other mailing arraigments with the guy in France. Cheers M
    19. Hello All, Here is a picture of my friends great grandfather General Schlee-Pascha who was Generalinspekteurs der t?rkischen Feldartillerie 1914-1918. He has identified all of the badges other than the little round one next to his IC 1st class. This picture is dated 1942 so we are not sure if it's a veterns badge or Turkish or ??? Any thoughts are apprecited. Cheers Mark
    20. Hey Dan, I'm going to have to disagree with you about the plate. There just not seem to be enough detail in the eagle and feathers to suit me as being an original. I have a very late wartime made helmet and you can still see every feather crisp on the plate (front and back). Also... on the reverse the silver solder should be more 'silver'. Usually on the helmet plates, the reverse is much cleaner and the finish is alsmost always 100% gilded as it was never cleaned or buffed. On this helmet, the reverse is 'aged' and corroded and you really cant see the solder that holds the posts on. to me this looks like a newly made plate that someone has tried to 'age'. As far as the way it fits on the shell.. it's a standard prussian helmet with this new 'plate' added. The shell itself looks to have been 're-worked' as I'm not real crazy about the laquer finish either. I also dont like the finish on the spike and base... the last time I saw one like this it was a zinc set that someone had 're-plated'. That gave it the weird fiish color. As far as the stars..... obvioulsy they have been replaced since they dont match. I wuld not say that they are original to the helmet as the helmet is a very nice pre-war premium quality (as shown by the sweatband) and I don't think that the helmet maker would use mis-matched stars. As far as split pronged.. this could be pre-war as I have seen officer's and even general's helmets with split prongs as they were lighter and fit closer to the shell to wear. My 2 cents Cheers Mark
    21. From my own experiance.... Yes... the unsold lots can be sold.. for opening bid + commission Cheers Mark
    22. Hey Rick, I didn't realize that the non-Prussian cockades were worn after 1918. I thought they all went to the Reich?s colors and stopped wearing the other states colors Oh.. and Ron..... NICE cap ! Cheers Mark
    23. Hey Glenn, Have you seen other examples of where the wrong tress was used ? I would find it odd that a General would't notice that the insignia was incorrect (braid) ? Could the tunic be correct... but yet with wrong stars (instead of rosettes) ?? or perhaps some level of beamten that was assigned to a military post ? This one really has me baffeled Cheers Mark ps... great info for Sandro on the Saxon WAF thread........
