    1. What is the cypher under that crown on the bottom center guy's shoulder strap? Bavaria had two cyphered FARs. Chip
    2. I'm also wondering (if anyone knows) if the NCO braid on the overcoat collars just had the Prussian black stripe down the center or if it was different color scheme for the navy.
    3. Chris, One other thing to look for is that enlisted Matrosen Infanterie did not have shoulder straps either on their tunics or overcoats. Chip Could you make a close-up of the overcoat front button/s. You don't see naval overcoats that often, so I'm wanting to confirm that they have a subdued (painted?) imperial crown button. Thanks, Chip
    4. The ribbon bar shows that this soldier is not a Prussian, based on the positioning of the Iron Cross ribbon. I'm not well versed enough in the identification of ribbons to say what the first ribbons might tell us. Chip
    5. Chris, The uniform does not have collar Litzen. Can you make a close-up of the strap?
    6. I bought such a Garde Res.Pion.Rgt. tag on a "buy it now" from a Polish seller. It looked great. I was warned by a EM collector that it was a fake. I was able to cancel the sale before it was sent. I think this seller is a re-seller. The tags are coming from Poland. Chip
    7. Chris, Ribboned awards were normally only worn this way for photos upon receiving the medal. You've seen many photos of EKII winners wearing their awards this way, but never on duty in the field. I have a photo of Carl Degelow (last winner of the Pour le Merite) upon his awarding of the Hohenzollern Haus Order and he is wearing it in this style, at his button-hole.
    8. Kornel,

Did you see the Garde Res.Pion.Rgt. tag that Chris has shown in post #347? Is that the one you told me was a reproduction and that I cancelled my order for? It looks very familiar.

    9. The Ersatz Bataillon of Res.Inf.Rgt.Nr.86 was in Flensburg. It was established in August 2, 1914.
    10. These two are wearing their belts at their stomachs and not at their hips, but regardless, the skirts are longer from the hip pockets to the bottom edge of the skirt. The jacket length is one of the manufacturing criteria, so perhaps the long version was all the B.A. had on hand. They could be private purchase Blusen, but you would think if so, they would have altered the collars as NCOs often do on custom tunics. Chip
    11. Charles, I was just trying to say that I have some nice items, but not on the level, of the high-end collections (yours, for instance). Chip
    12. Chris,

Just an additional note for you regarding the P.B.12 straps. While they are nice and desirable, they have turned out to be the most commonly seen M15 Pionier straps. Having a pair is a bonus. I've had chances to purchase pairs from this battalion before, but I already had a single and pairs aren't cheap.

Not to rain on your parade, as I said they are highly desirable, but I would not call them rare at all. P.B.12 and P.B.22 spawned almost all of the rest of the Saxon pionier companies. I consider the company level straps much more scarce and continue to look for them for myself.

Hi, Nice Straps!! Rare is always relative... Murphy collecting law One: You never really find what you are looking for, then when you do you find even more the next week.

You can bet is someone is looking for these he will find everything BUT these. Then he will find these... then a pai a week later... and another pair the week after that ;-)

And then I have seen things that were considered rare and then more and more showed up and they weren't so rare any more.

    13. I agree Chris. When you have the chance to grab something nice, you go for it! This pair is matched! I'm not sure what your comment meant, but there were right and left shoulder examples in each pair. Saxon Jäger straps were the same, with a specific right and left.
    14. Eric, I have an example of that first card. It's not unit specific on the front, so I imagine it was more widely available. Chip
    15. Looks like you have some reading to do! I'm especially interested in the Leuchtmittel volume. Chip
    16. Congratulations Andy! I was hoping for a victory for you at the Kassel show. A very tough badge indeed! Now, some more research to see if any others were worn by Germans. Chip
    17. Sure glad I found mine first! It was one tenth the price of this one. Quite a few bidders too. I'm happy.
