    1. Look at the ones that are pictured in this thread, especially Daniel's. The wool should be the light gray overcoat wool material as used on the early issue wartime coats (and their shoulder straps). Linings can vary. Issue examples often have maker or issue stamps on the inside. Leather toggle and keeper straps. Chip
    2. Here are a few examples of Hersteller marks from the Internet. I am also including a list of Hersteller that has appeared on various forums. If you have any additions for names or dates not mentioned on the list, I would be pleased to know about them. Chip Aluminium trinkbecher.doc
    3. What would the stamp "St.B.XIV" mean? I have it in a cap. Could it be Sturm Batl.14? Did they use Roman numerals for the Sturm Bataillone? Chip
    4. Chris, I think there may be one more version and that would be the early style button, but in painted steel for the transitional Waffenrock.
    5. Hoss, If you are speaking of the papercloth puttees, I have a pair. Many years ago at a show a guy had one sitting on his table. He told me it was a belly warmer! I asked if he had any more and he told me he had another just like it at home. Sure enough he sent it to me later and they were a matched pair. Funny.... Chip
    6. Some people don't think about the history behind an item. It's all about the $$$$$.
    7. The Kaiser would be proud. He loved his navy.
    8. Issue, private purchase and private purchase officer style. Nice! Chip
    9. Chris, Super buttons. I especially like the bronze and white metal sets. Chip
    10. Chris, I have a piece of this that was once on a collar (went all the way around) and it is identical to your piece.
    11. Eric, Based on outward appearance, I would call this a Bavarian Einheitsmütze. One of the ink stamps seems to be for the same unit as the Etikett (Prussian "A.R.3"). Just another example of the kind of inexplicable thing that happens in wartime. Chip
    12. Eric, I believe your canteen with the web harness was refitted at some point. The original leather shoulder sling was replaced with the web harness. The side retaining straps for the original sling are still there. The cover is of the type issued on the M07 aluminum Labeflasche and carried over to the steel version of the M07. I have not found anything to indicate when these web harnesses were first put into use, but I would guess that it would have been before the end of 1915. There may be several factors as to why they are not more abundant today, but the main one might be the very short production window of the steel M07 models. Whatever the reason, we know the web harnesses were not carried over to the new M15 canteens or subsequent models. Chip
    13. Chris, Just from what I have seen of these Kahn canteens, the covers seem not to fit. It is possible that the papercloth material shrank when exposed to the weather in the field and therefore they made them a bit larger than the canteen to allow for this shrinkage. The glass bottles were obviously larger than their metal counterparts, so perhaps the covers were made of a size to accommodate either canteen. Regardless, it appears that they have been together since the war, so it is not a case of two similar, but unrelated, items being "married". Some of these canteens have already shown up on Emig's site for 160 Euro. I think I saw three and all were sold. Chip
    14. Charles, That Drag.Rgt.22 tunic belonged to me until the late 1970s. I bought it in about 1974 for $100! I was just starting imperial collecting (other than shoulder straps) then and I thought it was a pioneer officer. Chip
    15. Even the "Lico" name looks like it is done in a later font (1920s-30s). I'd be surprised if these were around during WWI. Chip
    16. In looking back through this thread, I realized that though I had spoken of my M15 canteen for mounted artillery personnel, I had not posted any pictures. Chip
    17. Nice Chris! I've never seen this brand before. I wonder if there is a cloth label on the puttees, similar to that on the Mars Gamaschen? I have a similar pair of "Fox" brand puttees still tied with the original paper label. They are British, with no nice picture of a German mountain trooper. Chip
