Its very uncommon to wear miniature medals in the Bundeswehr and if, then they are worn on the "Gesellschaftsanzug" (some kind of mess dress uniform) and only a few soldiers own such a uniform. Its very expensive and the occasions to wear it are usually extremely rare. I have one for example but only because I got it very cheap from a friend who did not need it anymore and we had the same size. -
Last week I received one of those medals (for my collection). Did anyone realise that they have a typo in the english text? It reads: ... AND LET NOTHLNG BE FORGOTTEN

Middle Rhine Valley, Germany: The castles Liebenstein and Sterrenberg, called "The hostile brothers". A legend says, that those castles were owned by two brothers who fought against each other. -
Walking the Four-Day-March of the Ijzer in Flanders/Belgium together with a british Air Cadet marching team in exactly the same area where we killed each other exactly 100 years ago! -
The Middle Rhine Valley (UNESCO World Heritage) last Monday morning while walking the Rheinsteig walking trail near the village of Kestert. -

Belgium Belgian marching medals (MESA and Ijzer)

This time I took part at the Vierdaagse van de Ijzer on the 4 x 24 km trail. No Tom Jones anymore for the 4 x 32 km medal and the one I received is the six-pointed silver one. I took part at the Last Post in Ypres and some other events too. It was an awesome week in Belgium!! -
And finally something I was searching for more than 15 years. This is Guillaume Defauwe. I was speechless as I saw him for the first time. He looks so young.

Gentlemen, this post is a looooong time ago, but here an update. Last week I drove to Flanders to take part at the four-day-march of the Yser around Ypres and I visited Fort Barchon for the first time. I had Defauwe's medals in the trunk of my car. I decided to bring them home and donate them to the small museum of the fort. They belong to this place, where he fought and was killed in 1940 and I must say, this decision was very easy. Some photos will follow soon.

Here the 2014 design of the 4 x 32 km medal. No Tom Jones anymore. I will take part this year. Maybe they changed the design for the 4 x 24 km medal too.
