This one came straight from the famous “Avers № 6, Soviet Order and Medals” published in Moscow in 2003 (p.408). In this catalogue this piece was described as “At the photo copy of order presented”

Type 3 Unfortunately we have only obverse photo.

This is authentic. Made in Mongolia in 00s. Brass. Unissued one (although someone tried to make it looks like this piece was issued, thats why scratches and some kind of putty (? ). Not the worst quality for modern Mongolian awards. Regards, Nick

Right on man! One should never relax with these soviets... What we have here is actually two different number 9!!! One that I posted (post #17) and the other that Alex posted (it has an extra rivet and many others differences (anvil, flowers, star...) that I simply didn't noticed because automatically assume that (since it has 9 on reverse) it is exactly the same specimen). Ain't it nice? Alex specimen looks like a fake made (and pretty well made I must add) after Herfurth specimen ... Or vice versa (hardly though) ... Or they are both fakes Herfurth specimen indeed has some eccentric features. For example form of torch Regards, Nick

Since its institution in 1902, the Order of Merit has to date only admitted eight women, of which Florence Nightingale was the first. This highly prestigious Order, of which British membership is limited to the Sovereign and a maximum of 24 others at any one time, comprises six admirals, six generals and twelve civilians eminent in the fields of art, music and literature.

1907 – Order of Merit

The Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem was incorporated by Royal Charter of Queen Victoria in 1888. It is generally given in recognition of voluntary work in hospitals, ambulance and relief work. It has undergone many changes and is now divided into six classes under the Sovereign and Grand Prior of the Order. The Order was presented to Florence Nightingale in 1904.

Florence Nightingale was among the first 31 recipients of the Royal Red Cross, instituted in 1883 as an award specifically to females for special devotion in nursing sick and wounded servicemen.
